About the Role
Vidyashilp University is looking for a dynamic and student-focused Placement Officer to join the Early Careers Office and support the University's internship, placement and career-readiness initiatives.
The role will involve building relationships with companies and recruiters, coordinating campus recruitment processes, engaging with students, maintaining placement databases, and supporting the development of meaningful industry–academia partnerships.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a college/university placement office, understand the campus recruitment ecosystem, and be comfortable interacting with HR professionals, business leaders, students, faculty and senior university leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Placement & Recruitment
- Coordinate end-to-end campus placement activities for undergraduate students.
- Engage with companies for internship, full-time and PPO opportunities.
- Identify suitable companies and hiring opportunities based on student profiles and programme requirements.
- Coordinate company registration, (JD) collection, student applications, shortlisting, assessments, interviews and offer processes.
- Manage campus recruitment drives and ensure smooth coordination between recruiters, students and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of offers, selections, joining status and placement outcomes.
2. Corporate & Recruiter Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with HR, Talent Acquisition and business leaders.
- Proactively reach out to companies for internship and placement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a structured Recruiter / Company Database.
- Follow up with companies regularly and identify potential long-term recruitment partnerships.
- Support invitations to companies for campus visits, recruitment drives, industry talks, expert sessions and other engagements.
- Develop relationships across sectors relevant to Engineering, Management and other disciplines at VU.
3. Student Engagement & Career Readiness
- Act as a key point of contact for students regarding placements and internships.
- Conduct student briefings on placement processes, eligibility, recruitment opportunities and professional expectations.
- Support students in preparing for:
- Resume/CV development
- Aptitude tests
- Group discussions
- Technical interviews
- HR interviews
- LinkedIn and professional branding
- Communication and workplace readiness
- Track student career preferences and placement readiness.
- Coordinate with faculty and programme teams to identify student talent suitable for specific industry requirements.
4. Internship & Capstone Engagement
- Facilitate summer internships, semester internships and 5–6 month Capstone Projects.
- Identify organisations willing to offer meaningful live projects to VU students.
- Coordinate project requirements between companies, students and academic teams.
- Track internship progress, completion and feedback.
- Explore opportunities for converting internships and Capstone Projects into PPO / full time employment.
5. Industry–Academia Engagement
- Support the Early Careers Office in organising:
- Industry Expert Talks
- CEO / CHRO sessions
- Career Mentorship Programmes
- Industry Visits
- Recruitment Drives
- Career Workshops
- HR Conclaves
- Networking Events
- Maintain relationships with visiting industry professionals and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration.
6. Data Management & Reporting
- Maintain updated databases of:
- Students
- Recruiters
- Companies
- Job opportunities
- Internships
- Placement offers
- Alumni
- Ensure timely and accurate placement-related data entry and reporting.
- Prepare weekly/monthly placement reports and dashboards for the Early Careers Office and University leadership.
- Track key metrics such as company outreach, recruiter engagement, applications, shortlisting, selections, offers and joining status.
- Ensure placement records and documentation are maintained systematically.
7. Employer Branding & Communication
- Support the preparation of placement brochures, student profiles, recruiter presentations and company communication.
- Coordinate with the Marketing/Communications team to showcase significant industry engagements, recruitment drives and student achievements.
- Ensure professional communication with recruiters and external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of the college/university placement ecosystem.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong relationship-building and networking abilities.
- Good understanding of campus recruitment and fresher hiring processes.
- Ability to communicate confidently with HR Heads, Talent Acquisition teams and senior industry professionals.
- Strong follow-up and coordination skills.
- Good written and verbal English communication.
- Proficiency in MS Excel / Google Sheets, PowerPoint and basic CRM/database management.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work with deadlines and recruitment targets.
- Student-centric approach with a strong sense of ownership.
Preferred Attributes
Candidates with the following experience will have an added advantage:
- Experience working with Engineering / BTech and Management students.
- Existing network of HR / Talent Acquisition professionals and recruiters.
- Experience in handling campus recruitment drives independently.
- Experience with placement management systems / CRMs.
- Experience in developing new corporate relationships rather than only coordinating existing recruiters.
- BE/BTech + MBA/PGDM qualification.
- Experience in a reputed university, engineering college, business school or higher-education institution.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Placement Officer will be expected to contribute towards measurable outcomes including:
- Number of new companies onboarded for internships and placements.
- Number of quality internships and full-time opportunities generated.
- Number of campus recruitment drives conducted.
- Student participation and conversion rates.
- Internship-to-PPO / full-time conversion.
- Recruiter engagement and repeat hiring.
- Timely completion of recruitment processes.
- Accuracy and quality of placement data and reporting.
- Student and recruiter satisfaction.
