Payment Business Analyst: Key Responsibilities

- Gather and document business and functional requirements for payment applications.
- Analyze end-to-end payment flows, including initiation, authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, refunds, and reversals.
- Work on payment messaging standards such as ISO 8583 and ISO 20022.
- Perform field-level message analysis, mapping, validation, and gap assessment.
- Prepare BRD, FRD, functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate with product owners, developers, architects, QA teams, banks, and payment processors.
- Support SIT, UAT, defect analysis, and production issue resolution.
- Participate in Agile activities such as backlog refinement, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups.

Mandatory Skills
- Strong experience as a Business Analyst in the Payments or Banking domain.
- Good knowledge of ISO 8583, including MTI, bitmap, data elements,



and response codes.
- Experience with ISO 20022 messages, such as pacs, pain, and camt.
- Understanding of card payments, real-time payments, domestic payments, or cross-border payments.
- Knowledge of issuing, acquiring, payment switches, transaction processing, clearing, and settlement.
- Experience in message mapping, XML, JSON, XSD, APIs, and system integration.
- Strong experience in requirement gathering, functional documentation, user stories, and UAT.
- Hands-on experience with JIRA and Confluence.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Good-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of SWIFT MT/MX messages and MT-to-MX migration.
- Experience with payment networks or schemes such as Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, SWIFT, SEPA, RTP, UPI, IMPS, NEFT, or RTGS.
- Understanding of chargebacks, fraud checks, sanctions screening, and payment exceptions.
- Experience working with banks, fintech organizations, payment gateways, or payment processors.
