We are seeking an experienced and engaging Freelance Senior Secondary Mathematics Teacher to deliver high-quality online lessons to Australia-based students in Years 10 to 12.

The Role The successful candidate will teach students in Year 10 Mathematics and senior secondary Mathematics courses leading to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). You will provide structured curriculum instruction, examination preparation and personalised academic support based on each student's state, course, current ability and learning goals.

This freelance opportunity is ideal for an accomplished Mathematics educator with excellent subject knowledge, a strong understanding of Australian senior secondary assessment requirements and the ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and confidently.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging, interactive and well-structured online Mathematics lessons for Year 10 and senior secondary students.
- Teach Year 10 and 10A Mathematics, including the preparation students need for advanced senior courses.
- Teach senior courses according to each student's requirements, such as VCE General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics; HSC Mathematics Standard, Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2; and equivalent QCE, WACE and SACE Mathematics courses.
- Teach topics across functions and graphs, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, probability and statistics, vectors, complex numbers, proof, matrices, networks and financial mathematics as required by the course.
- Plan lessons in alignment with the relevant state study design or syllabus.
- Explain mathematical concepts, methods and problem-solving strategies clearly and logically.
- Develop students' mathematical reasoning, accuracy and ability to solve unfamiliar and extended-response problems.
- Teach effective use of CAS and graphics calculators (such as TI-Nspire and Casio ClassPad) where the course permits them.
- Prepare students for school-based assessments such as VCE School-Assessed Coursework (SACs), HSC assessment tasks and QCE internal assessments, including problem-solving and modelling tasks.




- Prepare students for technology-free and technology-active final examinations, including trial and practice exams.
- Teach examination techniques, time management and presentation of full working.
- Work through past examination papers and assessor reports aligned with the relevant course.
- Review students' assignments and practice papers and provide detailed, constructive feedback.
- Identify misconceptions and learning gaps and provide targeted support.
- Assign appropriate homework and monitor its completion and quality.
- Track student progress and adjust lesson plans according to performance.
- Maintain accurate lesson notes, attendance records and progress updates.
- Communicate professionally with students, parents and the Smavy Academy team.
- Participate in teacher training, academic reviews and periodic parent–teacher meetings when required.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and encouraging online learning environment in line with child-safe practices.

Essential Requirements

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Education or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience teaching senior secondary Mathematics (for example VCE, HSC, A-Level, IB Diploma, ISC or CBSE Class 11–12).
- Strong subject knowledge across calculus, functions, algebra, trigonometry, probability and statistics.
- For advanced courses, strong knowledge of vectors, complex numbers, proof and further calculus.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Ability to break down complex mathematical concepts into transparent, manageable steps.
- Ability to assess student work accurately and provide specific, actionable feedback.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to different abilities, learning styles and confidence levels.
- Confidence using online teaching platforms, digital whiteboards and mathematical notation tools.
- Reliable computer, high-speed internet connection, clear audio and a suitable teaching environment.
- Availability during Australian after-school hours (approximately 10:30 am – 6:30 pm IST) and/or weekends.
- Commitment to punctuality, professionalism and consistent student support.
- Willingness to complete identity, qualification and background-verification checks and child-safety training.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

- Formal teaching qualification such as B.Ed., M.Ed., PGCE or an equivalent credential.
- Direct experience teaching VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE or SACE Mathematics courses.
- Experience teaching VCE Specialist Mathematics or HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and 2 would be an advantage.




- Experience with CAS calculators (TI-Nspire or Casio ClassPad).
- Experience as an examiner, assessor, moderator or marker.
- Proven success in helping students improve study scores, band results or examination outcomes.
- Experience delivering one-to-one online classes to international students.
- Familiarity with the Australian Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
