Job Summary
We are looking for a
Lab Engineer with hands-on experience in material and welding-related testing, laboratory operations, calibration, documentation, and quality standards. The candidate should have strong practical knowledge of mechanical testing and be capable of independently managing laboratory testing activities and related documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on Weld Macro Analysis, UTM, Impact Testing and Hardness Testing.
- Prepare, inspect and process testing samples as per applicable standards and customer requirements.
- Review, interpret and implement applicable ISO/EN standards for testing and quality processes.
- Prepare, review and maintain test reports and laboratory documentation with proper document control and traceability.
- Review and approve test reports against specified standard and customer requirements.
- Monitor calibration of laboratory/testing equipment and measuring instruments and maintain calibration records.
- Ensure sample-to-report traceability throughout the testing process.
- Develop and follow appropriate sampling plans as per applicable standards and requirements.
- Maintain laboratory 5S, safety and housekeeping standards.
- Coordinate with third-party / external laboratories for testing requirements not available in-house.
- Maintain records related to testing, calibration, samples, reports and external laboratory activities.
- Ensure proper use and handling of measuring and testing instruments.
- Support quality and laboratory audits and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
- Coordinate with Quality, Welding, Production and Engineering teams for testing and analysis requirements.
Technical Knowledge Required
- Mechanical Testing: UTM, Impact Test and Hardness Test.
- Weld Testing: Weld Macro Analysis and sample preparation.
- Good knowledge of ISO/EN standards, including review, interpretation and implementation.
- Knowledge of material mechanical and chemical properties.
- Understanding of welding and surface treatment processes.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and their proper usage.
- Understanding of sampling plans, sample/report traceability, calibration systems and laboratory documentation.
- Knowledge of Laboratory 5S and safety practices.
Candidate Profile
- Qualification: B.E./B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 3–5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing / testing laboratory workplace.
- Hands-on experience in metallurgical/material testing and welding-related laboratory activities.
- Strong analytical, documentation and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with internal teams and external laboratories.
