Our client is an established Gujarat-based manufacturer of industrial and special-purpose gearboxes, operating with a technical collaboration with a German company. With a strong presence in the gearing industry, the company specialises in precision manufacturing of planetary gearboxes, worm gearboxes, and customised transmission solutions for industrial applications. Their product range includes extruder gearboxes, servo planetary gearboxes, and low-backlash precision units serving sectors such as automation, machine tools, defence, and robotics.

About the Role In this role, you will be responsible for assembling precision gearbox units on the factory floor, working with components such as gears, shafts, bearings, seals, and housings. You will interpret technical drawings and work instructions, perform sub-assembly operations, and conduct functional testing to ensure every unit meets engineering specifications.

This is a hands-on assembly position suited to a technician with strong mechanical aptitude and prior experience in gearbox, pump, or compressor assembly. You will work in a precision assembly shop floor environment equipped with specialised fixtures, presses, and testing rigs.

Key Responsibilities

- Assemble gearbox components including gears, shafts, bearings, seals, and housings
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
- Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
- Perform sub-assembly operations for input/output shafts, differential units, and planetary gear systems
- Set and verify gear backlash, preload, and clearances as per engineering specifications
- Ensure proper bearing installation and alignment using hydraulic or mechanical presses




- Apply correct torque settings using calibrated torque wrenches and tools
- Conduct functional testing including run testing, leak testing, and noise/vibration checks (NVH testing)
- Inspect parts for defects and ensure proper fit and alignment
- Troubleshoot assembly issues such as gear meshing problems, abnormal noise, or misalignment
- Record production data and inspection results as per company documentation systems
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area
- Follow safety procedures and company policies
- Collaborate with quality and engineering teams for continuous improvement

Required Qualifications Education: ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience in related product assembly)

Experience: 3–5 years of assembly experience in gearbox, pump, or compressor manufacturing

Technical Knowledge (Mandatory):

- Strong understanding of gearbox components and transmission systems
- Knowledge of gear types (helical, spur, worm, planetary) and their applications
- Familiarity with tolerances, fits (H7/g6 etc.), and precision measurement techniques
- Experience using dial gauges, feeler gauges, micrometers, and torque tools
- Basic understanding of lubrication systems and sealing methods
- Ability to interpret GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Awareness of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) factors in gearbox assembly

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in precision gearbox or transmission assembly
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices

You are a hands-on technician with a solid mechanical foundation and proven experience assembling precision mechanical components. You understand gearbox internals — gears, shafts, bearings, and seals — and you know how to work to tight tolerances. You are comfortable reading engineering drawings, using precision measuring instruments, and following assembly procedures exactly.

You take pride in getting the fit, alignment, and torque right the first time. You are safety-conscious, organised with documentation, and work well alongside quality and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
