Job Profile
The Financial Controller (Qualified CA) will own the integrity of the companys books, systems, controls and compliance.
The role goes beyond accounting and reporting: the Controller will build scalable finance systems and processes, drive automation with the technology team, design and run the Risk Control Matrix (RCM) and Internal Financial Controls (IFC) framework, ensure zero-default statutory compliance, and lead the internal audit program. The role suits a hands-on finance leader who can build structure in a fast-growing, high-transaction startup setting.
Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Systems & Processes
- Process design: Design, document and roll out Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all finance processes Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report, payroll, fixed assets and inventory.
- Month-end close: Establish a structured month-end close calendar with a close in a fixed number of working days, with checklists and review sign-offs.
- ERP ownership: Own the ERP master data governance, chart of accounts, user access rights and system configuration.
1. Automation & Technology Development
- Automation roadmap: Build and execute a finance automation roadmap bank, vendor, customer and GST reconciliations, invoicing, collections tracking and MIS.
- System integration: Work with the product and technology teams to integrate the ERP with operations, order, dispatch and billing platforms, so that transactions flow into the books without manual entry.
- Dashboards & MIS: Develop real-time dashboards (e.g., Power BI / Tableau / ERP-native)
for management on revenue, margins, receivables, cash and costs.
1. Risk Control Matrix (RCM) & Internal Financial Controls (IFC)
- Control testing: Conduct periodic Test of Design (ToD) and Test of Operating Effectiveness (ToE), document walkthroughs, and report deficiencies with remediation plans.
- Fraud risk: Implement fraud-risk controls segregation of duties, vendor/customer master controls, payment controls, and cash and inventory controls.
- Present control status and key risks to management and the Board / Audit Committee.
1. Overall Compliance
- Compliance calendar: Own the company-wide statutory compliance calendar with zero-default tracking.
- Taxation: Ensure timely and accurate compliance for GST (returns, reconciliations, e-invoicing, e-way bills), TDS/TCS, advance tax and income tax returns, and manage tax assessments, notices and litigation.
- Corporate & regulatory: Coordinate ROC/MCA filings, FEMA/RBI compliances (FDI reporting where applicable), and other industry-specific licences and statutory requirements with the company secretary and legal teams.
1. Internal Audit
- Audit plan:
Prepare a risk-based annual internal audit plan approved by management / the Audit Committee.
- Execution: Run internal audits in-house or through an outsourced internal audit firm define scope, oversee fieldwork and review reports.
- Closure: Track audit observations through to closure with process owners, and verify that corrective actions are effective.
1. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Run the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts; analyse budget-vs-actual variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity; prepare cash flow forecasts and manage working capital, banking relationships and funding requirements.
- Support management with financial modelling, unit economics and evaluation of investment opportunities.
1. Accounts Management
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including accurate and timely invoicing, credit control and collections.
- Ensure timely bank, ledger, inter-company and customer/vendor reconciliations.
Requirements:
- Chartered Accountant with 10-15 years of post-qualification experience, including at least 34 years in a controllership role.
- Hands-on experience designing and testing a Risk Control Matrix and Internal Financial Controls (IFC) or SOX controls.
- Strong knowledge of Ind AS, GST, TDS, Income Tax, Companies Act and ROC compliances.
- Proven experience implementing or managing ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite, MS Dynamics / Navision, Tally Prime).
- Open to work 6 days a week ( 5 days from Office; Saturday as WFH)
