About Openhouse
Openhouse is a modern learning and community brand for children and families. Across our centres, we offer preschool, daycare and extracurricular programs designed to make learning more joyful, engaging and relevant. We are backed by Accel, Z47 (formerly Matrix) and GSV Ventures.
We are now looking for a General Manager who can own all Openhouse centres like a business. To get a glimpse of Openhouse: https://www.instagram.com/openhouse.school The Role
We are looking for a General Manager who can take complete ownership of the performance of 12 Openhouse centres. This is not a traditional centre operations role. You will own the centre's business end-to-end — revenue, enrolments, retention, parent experience, team performance, quality and day-to-day operations. You will work closely with the founders and leadership team, with significant autonomy to figure out what needs to be done and how to get it done.
We are looking for someone who is highly commercial, hands-on, data-driven and obsessed with execution. If you enjoy running a business, solving messy problems and getting a team to deliver, this role is for you.
What You'll Own
1. Own the Centre's P&L; and Growth
You will be accountable for the overall business performance of your centre. You are not just expected to report the numbers. You are expected to move them.
You will
- Own centre revenue, enrolments and profitability
- Build and execute the centre's monthly and quarterly growth plan
- Drive new admissions and enrolments across preschool, daycare and extracurricular programs
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue from existing families
- Improve occupancy and utilisation across programs and time slots
- Track the centre's key business metrics every day/week
- Identify what is not working and take corrective action quickly
2. Own Parent Experience & Retention At Openhouse, the parent experience is a core part of the product.
You will
- Build strong relationships with parents and families
- Drive parent retention and repeat enrolments
- Monitor CSAT, NPS and parent feedback
- Identify recurring parent pain points and solve them
- Ensure parent concerns are resolved quickly and thoughtfully
- Build a strong community among families at the centre
- Turn happy parents into advocates and referrals
You should care deeply about the details of the experience — from the first centre visit to how a child is greeted every morning to how a parent feels when they leave the centre. 3. Build and Lead a High-Performing Team A centre is only as positive as its people.
You will
- Hire, onboard and develop the centre team
- Set clear goals and expectations for every team member
- Build a culture of ownership and accountability
- Coach team members to improve their performance
- Identify high performers and give them room to grow
- Address underperformance quickly and fairly
- Ensure the team consistently follows Openhouse's operating and quality standards
- Build strong relationships with teachers, centre managers and other staff
You should be comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary — while still being a leader people want to work with. 4. Own Centre Operations & Quality
You will make sure the centre works exceptionally well every day.
This includes
- Daily centre operations
- Safety and child safeguarding
- Attendance and staffing
- Centre readiness and hygiene
- Program execution and quality
- Parent communication
- Scheduling and utilisation
- Compliance and licensing requirements
- Resolving operational issues quickly
- Ensuring Openhouse SOPs and standards are consistently followed
The expectation is not that you personally do everything. The expectation is that you build a team and system that makes the centre run well without constant intervention from leadership.
5. Be Obsessed With the Details That Matter
You will spend a lot of time looking at data and asking: Why?
Why did enrolments drop this week?
Why are parents not renewing?
Why is this program under-utilised?
Why is CSAT falling?
Why is a particular teacher struggling?
Why are leads not converting?
Why is revenue behind the plan?
And then
What are we going to do about it? You should enjoy getting into the weeds, finding the real problem and driving the team towards a solution.
6. Build a Great Openhouse Community
Openhouse is not just a place children attend. We want our centres to become communities that families love being part of.
You will
- Create engaging experiences for children and families
- Build parent communities around the centre
- Organise events and experiences that bring families together
- Build partnerships with the local community
- Find creative ways to increase engagement and word-of-mouth
- Represent Openhouse within the neighbourhood
You should have a strong instinct for what families want and what makes a centre feel special.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first few months, you should be able to materially improve:
- Centre revenue
- Parent retention
- Revenue per family
- Lead-to-enrolment conversion
- CSAT / NPS
- Team performance and engagement
- Program utilisation
- Centre profitability
- Operational consistency
Ultimately, success means: Your centre is growing, parents love it, children love coming to it, the team is performing, and the business makes money. And you can explain exactly why.
Who We're Looking For
You should have at least 4 years of full-time experience, ideally in a direct-to-consumer (D2C) startup environment.
Please do not apply if you have less than 2 years of work experience and if you don’t like traveling to different locations.
The strongest candidates will have experience in several of the following:
- Running a business, centre, store, branch or multiple locations
- Owning a P&L; or significant revenue target
- Growing a consumer-facing business
- Managing a large frontline team
- Driving sales and conversions
- Improving customer retention and experience
- Building processes and operating systems
- Hiring and developing teams
- Managing performance
- Using data to make business decisions
- Solving ambiguous operational problems
- Working in a startup or fast-growing company
Experience in education, childcare, retail, hospitality, QSR, consumer services, fitness, healthcare or other multi-location businesses can be particularly relevant. But we are open to exceptional operators from other industries.
More important than your background:
You should be someone who:
- takes ownership. When something is broken, you don't wait for someone else to fix it.
- is commercially sharp. You understand that revenue, costs, retention and profitability matter.
- can lead people, inspire a team, coach them and hold them accountable.
- Is comfortable with ambiguity.
- likes getting into the details.
- can zoom out to think about the business and zoom in to understand why yesterday's enrolment numbers dropped.
- Are willing to travel to different locations instead working out from the comfort of glass chamber.
This Role Is Probably Not For You If:
- You prefer strategy over execution
- You need someone else to tell you what to do
- You are uncomfortable owning revenue or business targets
- You avoid difficult conversations with team members
- You primarily measure success by whether processes were followed
- You prefer managing agencies/vendors rather than solving problems yourself
- You don't enjoy working with numbers
- You need a highly structured corporate environment
- You are uncomfortable when priorities change quickly
- You believe operations and growth are separate functions
Location This role is based full-time in Bangalore. Remote work is not available for this position.
Compensation
Pay is not a constraint. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, capabilities and performance across the interview process.
