JobTitle: French Teacher

Department: Whole School

Reports to: Curriculum Leader/ Assistant Curriculum Leader

Role: The French Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality French language instruction that inspires, challenges, and supports students to achieve their full potential. The post holder will contribute positively to the academic, pastoral, and co-curricular life of the school, in line with the school’s vision, values, and the international education framework.

Key Accountabilities:

Planning and preparing for students’ learning:

- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons aligned with the British School context and curriculum expectations.

- Demonstrate robust subject knowledge of French language and culture appropriate to all age and ability ranges.

- Stay informed about current and emerging pedagogical approaches and implement best practice in language teaching.

- Develop an in-depth understanding of students’ individual needs, abilities, and learning styles, and plan appropriately differentiated learning experiences.

- Identify clear and measurable learning objectives for French language acquisition.

- Design and implement effective formative and summative assessment strategies to support and enhance student progress.

- Teach students according to the annual deployment and timetable allocation and contribute to whole-school teaching and learning initiatives where required.

Creating an effective learning environment:

- Establish a respectful, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment conducive to language learning.

- Build positive and productive relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider school community.

- Foster a strong culture of learning, curiosity, and international mindedness.

- Implement and maintain effective classroom and behaviour management strategies.

- Manage individual student behaviour in a fair,



consistent, and supportive manner.

- Organise and utilise physical and digital learning spaces effectively.

- Support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.

- Recognise, reinforce, and reward positive behaviours and achievements.

Teaching and learning:

- Communicate clearly and effectively in French and English, modelling accurate language use.

- Use a range of effective questioning, discussion, and interactive teaching strategies to promote engagement.

- Motivate and inspire students through creative, relevant, and culturally rich learning experiences.

- Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback to support language progression.

- Meet individual students’ needs through effective differentiation and inclusive practice.

- Integrate technology purposefully to enhance language learning.

- Select and use resources that support effective teaching and learning.

- Embed the school’s Learner Profile attributes within teaching practice.

- Excellent written and spoken English; strong proficiency in French.

- Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities and contribute beyond the classroom

Qualification:

- Qualified teacher with a graduate degree. Master’s degree preferred.

- Ability to engage students in a cross ability ranges.

Experience:

Preferably 3 + years teaching experience in an international school.
