About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, and responsible Accounts Head to lead the Finance & Accounts function of the school.
The Accounts Head will be responsible for managing the school's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, statutory compliance, fee accounting, payroll coordination, vendor payments, audits, and financial controls. The role requires strong accounting knowledge, leadership capability, integrity, and the ability to work closely with the Principal, Management, HR, administrative team, vendors, parents, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities1. Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversee complete accounting operations of the school.
- Maintain accurate books of accounts, ledgers, journals, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure timely recording and reconciliation of all financial transactions.
- Monitor income, expenditure, receivables, payables, advances, and bank transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure optimum utilization of funds.
- Establish and maintain appropriate financial controls and approval processes.
1. School Fee & Revenue Management
- Supervise student fee accounting and collection processes.
- Monitor outstanding fees and coordinate with the concerned departments for timely recovery.
- Ensure proper accounting of tuition fees, transport fees, activities, and other school-related collections.
- Reconcile fee collections with bank statements and school records.
- Prepare periodic fee collection and outstanding reports for management.
1. Budgeting & MIS
- Prepare annual budgets in coordination with the Principal and Management.
- Track actual expenditure against approved budgets.
- Analyze budget variances and provide explanations and corrective recommendations.
- Prepare regular MIS reports for management review.
- Provide financial insights to support administrative and operational decision-making.
1. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely compliance with applicable accounting and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with external consultants, auditors, tax professionals,
and government authorities as required.
- Oversee applicable GST, TDS, professional tax, income-tax, and other statutory compliances.
- Ensure proper maintenance of statutory records and supporting documents.
- Keep management informed about relevant changes in financial and statutory requirements.
1. Audit & Internal Controls
- Coordinate internal, statutory, tax, and other applicable audits.
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents required for audits.
- Ensure timely resolution of audit observations.
- Strengthen internal financial controls and minimize financial and operational risks.
- Conduct periodic reviews of accounting processes and documentation.
1. Payroll & Employee-Related Accounting
- Coordinate with HR for monthly payroll processing.
- Verify payroll-related accounting, deductions, reimbursements, and statutory liabilities.
- Ensure timely payment of salaries and employee-related dues.
- Coordinate with HR and consultants for payroll-related statutory compliance.
1. Vendor & Payment Management
- Supervise vendor invoices, purchase bills, and payment processes.
- Ensure payments are made only after proper authorization and verification.
- Maintain vendor ledgers and conduct periodic reconciliations.
- Monitor outstanding vendor payments and advances.
- Ensure appropriate documentation for all purchases and payments.
1. Banking & Treasury
- Monitor daily banking transactions and bank balances.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Manage cheque/EFT/online payment processes as per approved authorization procedures.
- Maintain proper records of deposits, withdrawals, and transfers.
- Support management in cash-flow planning.
1. Team Management
- Lead and supervise the Accounts & Finance team.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Ensure timely completion of accounting and reporting activities.
- Train team members on accounting procedures, controls, and compliance requirements.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce (B.Com) is required.
- M.Com / CA / CMA / MBA Finance will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Good working knowledge of Tally/ERP and MS Excel.
- Knowledge of applicable Indian taxation and statutory compliance requirements.
Experience
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in Accounts & Finance.
- Candidates with experience in schools, educational institutions, trusts, societies, or other reputed organizations will be preferred.
- Prior experience in independently managing an accounts department/team is desirable.

Compensation
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.
