Director of Finance & Tax India

Location: Noida, India, Onsite Job

Reporting To: Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Timings : 6:30 PM IST-3:30 AM IST/7:30 PM IST - 4:30 AM IST (US Shift)

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Director of Finance & Tax to lead US multi-state employment tax responsibilities and oversee finance process quality, controls, and capability across India.

The role requires a senior finance professional who can take hands-on ownership of US employment tax compliance while building robust finance processes, controls, SOPs, and automation. The position is also expected to progressively assume broader leadership of the India finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

US & Canadian Employment Tax

- Own the complete federal, state, and local employment tax filing calendar across all entities, FEINs, and states.
- Manage federal employment tax obligations, including 941, 940, federal withholding, and FUTA.
- Manage state withholding, SUTA, unemployment returns, wage reports, and local/municipal employment taxes.
- Schedule, execute, and reconcile tax payments and remittances.
- Manage state withholding and unemployment registrations and ensure tax readiness for new states and clients.
- Track and apply SUI rate changes and maintain state account compliance.
- Own the tax agency notice log and drive notices through resolution.
- Manage year-end tax activities, including W-2 processing/corrections, 941-to-W-3 reconciliation, state/local filings, amended returns, and overpayment recovery.

Finance Processes, Controls & Compliance
- Ensure accuracy and quality of finance processes performed in India, including billing, collections, cash application, AP, payroll accounting, intercompany, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Establish and strengthen internal controls, segregation of duties,



approval processes, and review mechanisms.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and documented finance processes.
- Establish and maintain month-end close calendars, ownership, and deadlines.
- Identify process gaps, risks, and control weaknesses and drive remediation.
- Improve and automate finance and tax processes to reduce manual work and support business growth.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting and escalation of finance and tax issues to the CFO.

Finance Function Building & Leadership
- Assess the capability, structure, processes, and risks within the India finance function.
- Develop recommendations for organization structure, roles, capabilities, and resource requirements.
- Hire, train, develop, and lead the tax processing team as the business grows.
- Coach and develop existing finance team members and establish clear performance standards.
- Progressively assume broader leadership responsibility for India finance.
- Work closely with US Finance, Accounting, Payroll, HR, Client Services, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA ICAI) or US CPA mandatory.
- 1015+ years of progressive finance experience.
- Strong experience supporting US operations from a finance/shared-services environment.
- Deep, hands-on experience in US multi-state employment tax, including federal, state, and local employment taxes.




- Experience working across multiple US states and multiple FEINs.
- Hands-on experience with tax calendars, filings, tax payments, reconciliations, registrations, and agency notices.
- Experience in staffing, PEO, EaaS, payroll processing, or other high-volume payroll environments is highly preferred.
- Proven experience designing and implementing SOPs, internal controls, segregation of duties, and month-end close processes.
- Experience with US payroll and tax platforms such as MasterTax, ADP SmartCompliance, or equivalent.
- Experience with an ATS/back-office system such as Aviont or equivalent.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Willingness to work during a defined overlap with US business hours.

Preferred Experience
- Big 4 / Big 4 equivalent or large-firm experience followed by industry/shared-services leadership.
- PEO/EaaS experience, including state registrations, SUI rate management, and client-level tax setup.
- Experience in an acquisitive or private-equity-backed organization.
- US GAAP exposure and month-end close ownership.
- Experience with finance and tax workflow automation.
- Experience using AI tools to improve finance and tax processes.
