Job roles and responsibilities:

a) General Duties

- Taking entire unit charge from the previous shift in-charge. (patients and machines)

- Assigning the other technicians for their respective works and rooms.

- Monitoring the entire work of the unit for the smooth functioning of the unit.

- Teaching the junior staffs (incidental teaching) and supervising their work.

- Attend the reliable/critical cases.

- Report any unexpected event to doctor or sister shift in-charge. E.g. : heamatoma formation, accidental removal of cannula, bleeding from the insertion site

- Ensure proper documentation ls made.

- ln the morning shift checks for the proper disinfection of every machine being done the previous night, if it is not done ensure it will be done as early as possible.

- Inform and follow up on any heamodialysis machine breakdown to bio-medical engineer with adequate documentation.

- Ensure all the technicians are following proper hand washing technique after attending one patient and before proceeding to next patient.

b) Specific Duties

- Taking over the machines and patients as soon as they come on duty.

- Note the status of the bi-carb and acid solutions available for use and estimate amount required for preparation.

- Identification of patient and taking respective dialyzers and tubing after checking the name and MRD number.

- Ensure proper disinfection of the machine before starting the case.





- Machine preparation by passing every test and check the proper functioning of alaram system, fill the check list at appropriate steps.

- Priming of the dialyzer and blood tubing of the respective patient with normal saline.

- Palpate the area to decide the site for cannulation.

- Swab the cannulation area.

- Cannulating the A,V fistula under strict aseptic technique.

- Connecting the tubing to dialysis machine after checking weight of the patient, calculating UF goal, Heparin dose and other profile as required.

- Monitoring the patient throughout the dialysis.

- After the dialysis process is completed, return blood to patient.

- Remove the A V fistula cannula under aseptic technique and dressing is done and tie tourniquet to prevent bleeding from the site' ln case of jugular catheter or femoral catheter heparin lock should be given and proper dressing is done under aseptic technique.

- After tying the tourniquets check for thrill of the fistula.

- Segregate the waste accordingly to the respective containers. E.g: sharp waste, infected waste and plastic Waste which has been generated,

- Check for any spillage over the equipment.

- Ensure the proper disinfection of the hemodialysis machine after each dialysis,

- disinfection.

- Documentation of procedure.

c) You will actively participate in continuous process improvement initiatives aimed at adding value to both the department and the organization.
