Civil & Structural Designer – S3D / Tekla

RVN Inc. is hiring a Civil & Structural Designer for an EPC client in Chennai. The role requires advanced SmartPlant 3D (S3D/SP3D) and Tekla Structures expertise for Oil & Gas, Refinery and Petrochemical projects. The successful candidate will independently develop 3D models, prepare structural drawings and material take-offs, and coordinate with engineering disciplines across greenfield and brownfield environments.

Key Responsibilities

● Develop and maintain civil and structural 3D models in S3D and Tekla, including RCC foundations, equipment foundations, pipe racks, buildings, modules, platforms, stairs and handrails.

● Prepare and extract general arrangement (GA), foundation, structural steel GA and fabrication drawings, along with material take-offs (MTOs) and bills of quantities (BOQs).

● Incorporate plot plans, equipment layouts, piping loads, structural design inputs and vendor drawings into coordinated models and deliverables.

● Coordinate with Process, Piping, Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation teams; resolve clashes and constructability issues during 3D model reviews.

● Participate in model reviews with clients, licensors and project management consultants, and incorporate review comments.

● Review models and drawings for accuracy, project specification compliance and applicable standards; meet quality and delivery milestones.

● Guide junior designers and draftsmen, and support the Discipline Lead with execution planning, work allocation and progress monitoring.

Required Qualifications and Must Have Skills

● Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.





● Advanced, hands-on S3D structural and foundation modeling experience and advanced Tekla Structures steel modeling and detailing expertise. Both tools are mandatory.

● Proven Oil & Gas, Refinery or Petrochemical EPC project experience.

● Experience modeling RCC foundations and structural steel, including equipment foundations, pipe racks, buildings, modules and platforms.

● Ability to prepare GA, foundation and structural steel fabrication drawings and extract MTOs / BOQs from S3D and Tekla models.

● Proficiency in AutoCAD / SmartSketch and Navisworks or an equivalent 3D model review tool.

● Working knowledge of applicable AISC, ACI, IS, BS and Eurocode standards.

● Experience with interdisciplinary coordination, clash resolution and constructability reviews; understanding of EPC workflows and deliverable sequences.

● Solid communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work independently and manage tight schedules and complex interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications and Good to Have Skills

● Rebar detailing and fabrication-driven modeling using Tekla.

● Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield projects, structural analysis and design inputs, and Fertilizer, Specialty Chemical or other Process Plant projects.

● Experience mentoring junior designers and supporting client, PMC or licensor model reviews.

● MS Excel proficiency for MTO preparation and reporting.
