The opportunity
We are seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer to lead finance across SRMB Steel's corporate and manufacturing operations. Working closely with the Director and business leaders, the CFO will strengthen profitability, cash generation and financial governance while supporting investment and growth decisions. This role requires strategic judgement, a strong understanding of steel manufacturing economics and the ability to turn financial analysis into operating action.
Key responsibilities
Financial strategy and business planning
Lead financial strategy, annual operating plans, budgets and rolling forecasts. Develop scenarios for steel prices, raw material costs, demand and funding requirements. Advise leadership on capital allocation, business performance and corrective actions, with clear visibility of cash flow and returns.
Manufacturing profitability and cost management
Strengthen plant, product and channel profitability analysis. Track contribution and EBITDA per tonne, raw material consumption, yield, power, fuel, conversion costs and freight. Partner with plant and commercial leaders to improve margins, challenge variances and validate cost savings against agreed baselines.
Key responsibilities continued
Treasury and capital structure
Lead banking relationships, debt funding, working capital facilities and project finance. Manage liquidity forecasts, financing costs, lender reporting, covenants and credit rating engagements. Oversee letters of credit and bank guarantees while maintaining sufficient funding headroom for operating and investment needs.
Working capital and commercial controls
Improve the cash conversion cycle through disciplined inventory, receivables and payables management. Govern dealer and distributor credit, overdue collections, rebates, sales schemes and customer profitability. Strengthen procurement and payment controls without compromising business continuity or essential supplies.
Financial reporting and accounting
Own timely monthly, quarterly and annual closing, reliable management reporting and financial statements under applicable accounting standards. Oversee consolidation where required, inventory valuation, fixed asset accounting and intercompany reconciliation. Present clear performance insights and forecasts to leadership and the Board.
Governance audit and taxation
Strengthen internal financial controls, delegated authority, segregation of duties and fraud prevention. Coordinate statutory, internal and cost audits as applicable, and close findings promptly. Lead tax planning and compliance across direct and indirect taxes, working with auditors, advisers, legal and company secretarial teams.
Capital investment and corporate development
Evaluate expansion, modernization and other capital expenditure through financial modelling, NPV, IRR, payback and sensitivity analysis. Monitor project spending and review returns after commissioning. Lead financial due diligence, valuation and integration planning for acquisitions or strategic partnerships under evaluation.
Enterprise risk and financial resilience
Assess commodity, credit, foreign exchange, interest rate and liquidity exposures. Establish scenario reviews and mitigation plans, oversee approved hedging where relevant, and review insurance adequacy. Support financial evaluation of energy efficiency and sustainability investments, including the reliability of related financial data.
Finance systems and analytics
Improve ERP controls and integration across finance, production, procurement, inventory and sales. Automate reconciliations, reporting and planning workflows. Build reliable dashboards that connect operational drivers with financial outcomes, supported by sound master data, access controls and audit trails.
Team and stakeholder leadership
Lead and develop corporate and plant finance teams, with transparent accountability, consistent processes and succession plans. Build effective partnerships with plant heads, sales, procurement, HR and IT. Represent the finance function with banks, auditors and other external stakeholders while maintaining independent financial judgement.
Candidate profile
- Mandatory qualification: Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India,
with 22+ years of post-qualification experience. At least 5 years must be in a CFO, Finance Head or equivalent senior finance leadership role. Only qualified CAs are eligible to apply.
- Substantial experience in a large manufacturing organisation with multiple operating units. Steel, metals or closely related process manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of treasury, debt funding, working capital, financial reporting, taxation, controls and audits, alongside direct exposure to plant finance and industrial costing.
- A track record of improving cash generation, profitability and capital efficiency, with the ability to explain the operating actions behind the financial results.
- Experience evaluating major capital projects and managing banking relationships. Exposure to acquisitions, restructuring or strategic partnerships will be an advantage.
- Strong command of applicable Indian accounting and tax requirements, ERP systems and management reporting, with experience leading finance process improvements.
- Ability to advise Directors and business leaders with clarity, challenge assumptions constructively and build capable finance teams. High standards of integrity and confidentiality are essential.
- Willingness to work from Kolkata and travel regularly to manufacturing locations and other business sites.
Additional eligibility requirements
- Applicants working in consulting roles or as independent consultants, self-employed professionals, freelancers or in independent practice are not eligible for this position.
- Candidates with frequent changes of employer will not be considered. A consistent record of tenure across previous roles is required.

- Stronger operating cash flow, with a shorter cash conversion cycle and fewer overdue receivables.
- Better visibility and control of EBITDA per tonne, unit costs and plant profitability.
- Timely financial close, reliable forecasts and closure of audit and control findings.
- Adequate liquidity, disciplined borrowing costs and compliance with lender commitments.
- Stronger capital project evaluation, spending control and delivery of approved investment returns.
