About the Commercial Function:
The Commercial team sits at the heart of Officeworks’ growth agenda. This function brings together customer needs, product innovation, services, supplier partnerships, merchandise planning, and channel growth to shape what Officeworks sells, how it competes, and the value it delivers across Retail, B2B, Government, and Education. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the business’s most commercially impactful areas.
The team plays a key role in evolving Officeworks’ product and service offering, accelerating growth in high-potential channels (such as B2B and Education), expanding private label and exclusive ranges, strengthening supplier partnerships, and unlocking emerging category opportunities across areas like technology, gaming, mobility, VR, print, installation, telco, and managed services.
You will help build commercial capability from the ground up, shaping scalable ways of working, strengthening planning and decision-making, and driving outcomes that impact sales, margin, customer experience, inventory performance, and long-term growth.

Why this role exists: The Category Assistant is responsible for the accurate and timely execution of core category processes across an assigned portfolio. The role coordinates product onboarding, maintains product and category data and provides administrative support for range, promotional, pricing and rebate activities.
As part of the Category Assistant team, the role delivers category support through consistent processes, controls and service standards. It works with category teams, suppliers and execution partners to ensure approved decisions are correctly reflected in systems and ready for delivery across stores and digital channels.
The role operates within a centralized pool model, supporting an assigned category portfolio while contributing to shared team priorities. This provides category teams with consistent support, category continuity and responsiveness to changing business needs.

Where you will make a difference: In this role you will:
Product Onboarding and Data Integrity:
- Coordinate the onboarding of approved products from initial request through to activation across relevant systems and channels.
- Collect and validate required product, supplier, regulatory and digital content information, following up incomplete or inconsistent submissions.
- Create and maintain accurate product records, including product attributes, descriptions, classifications, dimensions, costs and channel information.
- Coordinate product content, images and supporting documentation required for store and online execution.
- Complete system validations and readiness checks to confirm products are correctly configured before launch.
- Investigate product data issues, correct errors within the role’s authority and escalate matters requiring commercial or technical decisions.
Category, Range and Promotional Administration:
- Implement approved range additions, changes, transitions and discontinuations across relevant systems and supporting records.
- Coordinate the administrative requirements for product launches, range reviews, seasonal activity and other category initiatives.
- Support the set-up and maintenance of approved promotional activity, ensuring product, timing, pricing and channel information is complete and accurate.
- Coordinate required product information and content with Marketing, Digital, Store Operations and other execution teams.
- Maintain category calendars, trackers and status records to support delivery against agreed milestones.
- Prepare standard category information, reports and materials to support planning, performance reviews and supplier discussions.
Pricing, Rebates and Supplier Administration:
- Implement approved cost and retail price changes accurately and within agreed timeframes.
- Set up and maintain supplier rebates, funding arrangements and related records in line with approved commercial terms.
- Validate pricing, rebate and supplier information against approved documentation and resolve discrepancies with the accountable team.
- Support the administration of supplier forms, agreements, records and requests required to execute category activity.
- Maintain complete and auditable records for pricing, rebates and supplier related transactions.
Service Delivery and Stakeholder Support:
- Manage assigned requests through the centralized Category Assistant team, balancing priorities across the supported category portfolio.
- Complete work in line with agreed service levels, planning calendars, process requirements and business priorities.
- Provide clear and timely updates on request status, dependencies, risks and expected completion dates.
- Work across the Category Assistant team to provide coverage, manage workload peaks and maintain continuity of service.
- Build effective working relationships with category teams, suppliers and cross functional partners.
- Escalate conflicting priorities, incomplete inputs and issues that may affect product, promotional or range readiness.
Governance and Continuous Improvement:
- Execute approved category activity within established processes, controls and delegated authority.
- Maintain accurate records,
supporting documentation and approval evidence for completed transactions.
- Identify recurring data, process or system issues and contribute to practical improvements.
- Apply agreed templates, standards and ways of working consistently across the supported portfolio.
- Support testing, process changes and system improvements affecting category administration and product data.
- Share knowledge and contribute to the development of consistent capability across the Category Support team.
Who you will be working with:
- Category Assistant Lead and Category Assistant team: Align priorities, manage workflow, maintain service standards and provide coverage across category portfolios.
- Category and Merchandise Planning teams: Implement approved product, range, pricing, promotional and supplier decisions and provide visibility of progress and issues.
- Suppliers: Obtain product information, documentation and other inputs required to complete approved category activity.
- Marketing, Digital, Stores and Online: Coordinate product and promotional information required for customer facing execution across channels.
- Finance and Commercial Operations: Support pricing, rebate, supplier funding and other controlled commercial processes.
- Technology, Data and process owners: Resolve system and data issues and contribute to improvements in category support processes and tools.

- Timely execution: Product launches, range changes, promotions, pricing updates and rebate activities are completed against agreed milestones.

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
- Experience in category administration, product data, merchandise support, retail operations, supplier administration or a comparable role.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and process detailed information across multiple systems.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify incomplete, inconsistent or inaccurate information.
- Competence in Microsoft Excel and experience using business systems to enter, maintain and validate data.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests and meet established deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- A practical approach to investigating issues, resolving routine problems and escalating matters outside delegated authority.
- Ability to follow defined processes and controls while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and service quality.
Preferred:
- Experience in a retail, consumer goods or omnichannel environment.
- Experience using product information management, enterprise resource planning, merchandising or workflow systems.
- Exposure to product onboarding, promotions, range administration, pricing or supplier rebate processes.
- A relevant qualification in business, commerce, retail, data management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
