General Manager – Technical Program Management

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced GM – Technical Program Management to lead large-scale Commerce Platform, Digital Commerce, and Enterprise Technology Transformation initiatives across the organization.
This leader will own and drive strategic technology programs spanning commerce platforms, customer journeys, product discovery, catalog, pricing, promotions, checkout, payments, order management, fulfillment, and post-order experiences. The role will work closely with Engineering, Product, Architecture, Data, Operations, Finance, and Business teams to translate business strategy into scalable technology platforms and measurable business outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth combined with exceptional program leadership capabilities and a proven track record of managing large, complex, cross-functional commerce and platform transformation programs.
The role requires the ability to operate at an executive level while maintaining sufficient technical depth to engage with architects and engineering leaders on platform architecture, APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, integrations, scalability, reliability, and modernization.
Key Responsibilities
- Commerce Platform Strategy & Transformation
- Define and drive the roadmap for enterprise commerce platform transformation and modernization.
- Lead strategic programs across the end-to-end commerce ecosystem, including:
- Product discovery and search
- Catalog and content
- Pricing and promotions
- Cart and checkout
- Payments
- Order management
- Inventory and availability
- Fulfillment and logistics
- Returns, refunds, and post-order experiences
- Drive modernization of legacy commerce platforms into scalable, modular, API-first and cloud-native architectures.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to define platform capabilities that can support multiple business channels, markets, and customer journeys.
- Establish technology roadmaps aligned with business growth, customer experience, revenue, conversion, and operational objectives.
- Identify opportunities to simplify technology landscapes, reduce platform complexity, and improve engineering productivity.
2. Enterprise Platform & Technology Programs
- Lead large, complex programs involving multiple engineering and product teams across the organization.
- Drive cross-platform initiatives involving Commerce, Customer, Payments, Supply Chain, Data, Infrastructure, Security, and Enterprise Systems.
- Translate business strategy into executable technology roadmaps with clear milestones, dependencies, ownership, and success metrics.
- Drive platform consolidation, modernization, migration, and transformation programs.
- Lead Build vs. Buy vs. Partner evaluations for critical commerce capabilities.
- Establish enterprise-wide standards for platform integration, APIs, data flows, and technology dependencies.
- Ensure new platforms and capabilities are designed for scale, resilience, availability, security, and extensibility.
3. Program Execution & Operational Excellence
- Own a portfolio of strategic commerce and technology transformation programs from concept through implementation and adoption.
- Establish program governance, operating mechanisms, review cadences, and escalation frameworks.
- Maintain visibility into program health, dependencies, risks, budgets, milestones, and business outcomes.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical, operational, organizational, and delivery risks.
- Drive resolution of cross-functional dependencies and unblock critical initiatives.
- Establish mechanisms to improve program predictability, execution quality, and delivery velocity.
- Define and track KPIs across technology, customer experience, operations, and business outcomes.
- Ensure transformation programs deliver sustainable outcomes beyond initial implementation.
4. Commerce Experience & Business Outcomes
- Partner with Product and Business teams to translate customer and commercial objectives into technology priorities.
- Drive programs that improve key commerce metrics such as:
- Conversion
- Customer experience
- Checkout success
- Order fulfillment
- Platform availability
- Transaction success
- Revenue and GMV/NMV
- Operational efficiency
- Ensure platform investments are aligned with measurable business outcomes.
- Drive improvements across customer journeys and identify opportunities to eliminate friction across the commerce lifecycle.
- Balance short-term business requirements with long-term platform scalability and architectural health.
5. Architecture, Scalability & Modernization
- Work closely with Architecture and Engineering leadership on platform modernization and technology strategy.
- Demonstrate solid understanding of:
- Distributed systems
- Microservices
- APIs and event-driven architectures
- Cloud platforms
- Data platforms
- High-scale transaction systems
- Platform reliability and observability
- Security and compliance
- Drive architecture-related programs involving system decomposition, migration, re-platforming, integration, and modernization.
- Ensure platforms are designed to support high transaction volumes, multiple channels, and evolving business requirements.
- Drive technical debt reduction and modernization of critical legacy systems.
6. Stakeholder & Executive Management
- Partner with VP, SVP, CXO, Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to define strategic priorities.
- Influence stakeholders across functions without direct authority.
- Present program status, investment proposals, business cases, risks, trade-offs, and transformation roadmaps to executive leadership.
- Facilitate decision-making across teams with competing priorities.
- Establish strong communication mechanisms across senior leadership and execution teams.
- Act as a strategic bridge between business strategy, product vision, technology architecture, and execution.
7. Leadership & Organizational Impact
- Build and scale Technical Program Management capabilities, processes, and operating models.
- Lead and mentor senior TPMs and program leaders.
- Develop standardized approaches for portfolio management, governance, risk management, and execution.
- Build a culture of accountability, transparency, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement.
- Establish scalable operating models that enable multiple engineering and product organizations to execute complex transformation programs.
- Develop the next generation of program and technology leaders.
Required Qualifications
- 14–18 years of experience in Technical Program Management,
Engineering Program Management, Product Delivery, Technology Transformation, or related leadership roles.
- Proven experience leading large-scale commerce, digital platform, or enterprise technology transformation programs.
- Strong understanding of modern technology architectures including distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, and large-scale platforms.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex programs involving multiple engineering, product, architecture, and business teams.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce / digital commerce technology ecosystems and customer journeys.
- Experience across multiple commerce domains such as catalog, search, pricing, promotions, checkout, payments, order management, fulfillment, or customer experience.
- Proven experience driving platform modernization, migration, re-platforming, or enterprise transformation.
- Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Experience establishing governance frameworks, operating mechanisms, and portfolio management processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making capabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer internet, e-commerce, marketplaces, retail technology, SaaS, fintech, logistics, or large-scale digital platforms.
- Experience managing technology programs across multiple geographies, business units, or product lines.
- Exposure to high-scale commerce platforms handling significant transaction volumes and complex customer journeys.
- Experience with cloud transformation, platform engineering, API ecosystems, data platforms, search, personalization, or recommendation platforms.
- Understanding of AI/ML applications within commerce such as personalization, intelligent search, recommendations, automation, and customer experience optimization.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience managing TPM organizations and leading senior program managers/managers.
- Experience working in organizations undergoing significant digital or technology transformation.

Someone who can engage with Product Managers, Engineering Leaders, Architects, and Business Heads, understand complex platform and customer-journey challenges, and translate them into executable transformation programs.
The ideal leader will be comfortable moving between business strategy, commerce product thinking, technology architecture, and execution, while driving alignment across large and complex organizations.
This is a leadership role for someone who can build the roadmap, establish the operating model, drive execution, resolve organizational and technical dependencies, and deliver measurable transformation across the Commerce Platform ecosystem.
