Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Azure SQL Server DBA with solid hands-on expertise in migrating SQL Server databases and infrastructure from on-premises environments to Azure Cloud. The role focuses primarily on lift-and-shift migrations of SQL Server VMs to Azure IaaS, along with installing, configuring, and managing SQL Server instances on Azure Virtual Machines, including Always On Availability Groups (AOAG) for high availability and disaster recovery. The candidate will assess existing on-prem SQL Server environments, including versions, sizing, dependencies, clustering, and existing AOAG configurations, and plan the appropriate Azure target architecture.

Responsibilities
Perform pre-migration compatibility, storage, network, and downtime assessments
Execute migrations using Azure Migrate, Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), backup/restore, or log shipping
Configure SQL Server and OS settings
Set up WSFC, AOAG listeners, multi-subnet configurations, and AG replicas
Migrate existing on-prem AOAG topologies to Azure or implement recent configurations post-migration




Post-migration optimization and configuration of storage, disk types, caching, security, VNets, NSGs, firewalls, SQL Server settings, backups, maintenance plans, monitoring, and connectivity
Validate data integrity, failover functionality, synchronization, latency, and application connectivity
Support cutover and rollback activities
Conduct regular failover testing, troubleshoot AOAG and connectivity issues
Provide post-migration stabilization support
Work closely with infrastructure, networking, and application teams during migration windows and failover testing
Will be responsible for maintaining detailed migration runbooks, AOAG architecture documentation, configurations, and lessons learned for each migration cycle
