DevOps / Platform Engineer (Remote/Hybrid – On-Prem IIS + Azure)

Overview

The client currently hosts its platform on Windows/IIS servers and is migrating to Azure. We are seeking a DevOps / Platform Engineer to support both environments: delivering reliable, automated, zero-downtime releases to the current on-premises IIS estate, and building out the Azure platform to which services will migrate.

Both environments will be deployed through the same pipelines, using the same versioned artifacts.

Responsibilities

- Own CI/CD delivery to on-premises IIS servers by building pipelines that deploy .NET 10 services and the React SPA to Windows Server/IIS within the Quincy network, using self-hosted build agents or deployment groups behind the firewall.
- Manage IIS hosting for ASP.NET Core applications, including Hosting Bundle versions, application pools, site bindings, SSL certificates, in-process and out-of-process hosting, web.config, and server-specific setting configuration.
- Deliver zero-downtime on-premises releases using side-by-side sites or application pools behind ARR or a load balancer, with health checks and rapid rollback procedures — with no app_offline-style outages.
- Automate server configuration using PowerShell (WebAdministration/IISAdministration), WinRM, Web Deploy (MSDeploy), or DSC, ensuring servers are reproducible rather than manually configured.
- Maintain a hybrid build-once model in which a single versioned artifact can be deployed to IIS or Azure App Service,



with target-specific configuration injected at release time.
- Manage on-premises secrets and data, including migration gates for on-premises SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.
- Plan and execute the migration from on-premises IIS to Azure, including parity testing, DNS and traffic cutover, and rollback planning.

Must-Have Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience deploying .NET applications to on-premises Windows Server/IIS through automated CI/CD, rather than manual deployment processes.
- Hands-on experience with self-hosted agents or runners — such as Azure DevOps agents, deployment groups, or GitHub self-hosted runners — within restricted corporate networks.
- Strong IIS administration skills, including application pools, bindings, certificates, URL Rewrite/ARR, and the ASP.NET Core Hosting Bundle.
- Advanced PowerShell skills for deployment and server automation, including WinRM and Web Deploy.
- Experience delivering zero-downtime or near-zero-downtime IIS releases behind a load balancer.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

- Experience migrating workloads from on-premises IIS to Azure App Service.
- Experience with Azure Arc or hybrid monitoring of on-premises servers through Azure Monitor.
- Familiarity with load balancers such as F5, NetScaler, or Windows NLB.
- Experience with on-premises observability, including Windows Event Log, performance counters, and OpenTelemetry collectors forwarding telemetry from within restricted networks.

Interview Process

As part of the interview, you will be asked to design a deployment pipeline for three IIS servers behind a load balancer that supports zero-downtime releases and a defined rollback path.
