Job Role: Reviewer Selection Editor
Designation: Deputy Manager - 8 to 12 years
Qualification & Experience
- Postgraduate in Science (or equivalent) with a background in scholarly publishing/editorial process.
- 6-8 years of prior experience in reviewer selection, with demonstrated exposure to handling a team in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Hands-on experience with submission platforms such as Scholar One Manuscripts, Editorial Manager, or similar.
- Experience working in a client-facing service delivery environment is preferred.

- Sound knowledge of tools, databases, and strategies for identifying suitable reviewers.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality service to external customers.
- People management skills, including coaching, feedback delivery, and conflict resolution.
- Strong planning and organizational ability to manage workload distribution, deadlines, and team capacity.
- Analytical mindset, comfortable working with data to identify trends and drive improvements
Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Reviewer Selection Expertise
- Maintain strong working knowledge of tools, databases, and strategies for identifying reviewers who align with customer and journal expectations.
- Guide and support the team in resolving complex or escalated reviewer selection cases.
2. Journal & Workload Assignment
- Assign journals/titles to team members based on team capacity, complexity of the title, and individual skill levels.
- Rebalance assignments as volumes fluctuate, ensuring fair and efficient distribution of work across the team.
- Plan and arrange cover for planned and unplanned absences (leaves, sudden attrition)
so client deliverables face no disruption.
- Build and maintain a succession plan for key roles in the team, identifying and developing potential backups or future leads.
- Cross-train team members across journals/clients to build bench strength and reduce dependency on any single individual.
3. Deliverable Tracking & TAT Adherence
- Track day-to-day completion of deliverables against agreed timelines for every team member.
- Monitor turnaround time (TAT) adherence at both individual and team level; identify slippages early and course-correct before they escalate.
- Maintain and share trackers/dashboards reflecting daily and weekly status with reporting manager and the customer.
4. Communication and Process Coordination
- Facilitate communication between editorial teams and external internal stakeholders, ensuring review progress on schedule.
- Proactively flag risks, delays, or difficulties to the reporting manager and/or client well in advance, along with a proposed mitigation plan, rather than waiting for the issue to surface as an escalation.
5. Quality Control
- Ensure quality of the reviewer selection process delivered by the team, with a focus on credible reviewer choices and high agree rates.
- Plan and conduct periodic quality audits/spot-checks on team output and provide constructive feedback.
6. Hiring & Workforce Planning
- Partner with HR/Talent Acquisition to plan hiring in line with projected volumes and anticipated attrition.
- Ensure timely replacement of resigned or transitioned team members by proactively raising requisitions and following up to avoid service gaps.
- Participate in interviews and the selection process for new hires joining the team.
7. Training & Onboarding
- Design and deliver structured onboarding for new joiners on reviewer selection processes, tools, and submission platforms.
- Conduct periodic refresher training and skill-upgrade sessions to keep the existing team current on process changes and best practices.
9. Performance Management
- Set clear performance expectations and goals for each team member; conduct periodic one-on-ones and formal performance reviews.
- Identify underperformance early, put together improvement plans, and recognize/reward good performance.
10. Data Analysis & Process Improvement
- Analyze data on reviewer selection effectiveness, agree rates, and TAT performance to identify trends and root causes.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance speed and quality of reviewer selection.
• Maintain accurate records of reviewer selection activity and keep content/submission management systems updated.
12. Stakeholder Management
- Manage the expectations of client and editorial stakeholders through transparent, professional, and proactive communication.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the team's deliverables, representing the team in internal and client review discussions.
