Job Title: Scrub Nurse – Operation Theatre
Department: Operation Theatre (OT)
Reports To: OT In-charge / Nursing Superintendent / OT Manager

Job Summary

The Scrub Nurse is responsible for providing safe and effective nursing care during surgical procedures. The role includes preparing the operation theatre, maintaining strict aseptic techniques, assisting the surgical team, handling surgical instruments and supplies, and ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare the operation theatre, instruments, equipment, sterile supplies, and surgical sets before procedures.
- Perform surgical hand scrubbing, gowning, and gloving according to infection-control protocols.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
- Arrange and check surgical instruments, sutures, consumables, and implants as required.
- Assist surgeons by providing instruments, sutures, and other required items during surgery.
- Maintain accurate instrument, needle, and swab counts before, during, and after surgery.
- Ensure proper identification and handling of specimens and hand them over according to hospital protocol.
- Monitor and maintain availability and sterility of OT equipment and supplies.
- Follow infection-prevention, sterilization, and biomedical-waste-management protocols.
- Assist in positioning and maintaining patient safety during surgery.
- Coordinate effectively with surgeons,



anaesthesia staff, circulating nurses, and other OT personnel.
- Report any shortage, malfunction, contamination, or safety concern immediately to the OT In-charge.
- Complete required OT documentation and records accurately.
- Participate in cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of the OT after each procedure.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
- Respond appropriately to surgical emergencies and follow hospital emergency protocols.

Required Qualifications

- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM or equivalent recognized nursing qualification.
- Valid nursing registration with the appropriate nursing council.
- Previous Operation Theatre experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, sterilization, and infection control.

Working Conditions

- Work is primarily within the Operation Theatre.
