Role Summary

The AML/CFT Team Lead is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the AML Operations team, including off-role AML Analysts, to ensure the timely and effective execution of transaction monitoring, alert reviews, case investigations, manual monitoring activities, quality checks, incident management, and AML reporting. The role allocates and monitors workloads, provides guidance and support to analysts, reviews the quality of investigations and dispositions, and ensures that potentially suspicious activities are appropriately assessed and escalated in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements. The Team Lead also tracks operational performance, follows up on outstanding alerts and cases, supports the implementation of monitoring processes and controls, and serves as the first point of escalation for operational AML matters within the team.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the AML compliance team, including the off role aml analysts to ensure high performance and adherence to compliance standards.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of transaction monitoring and alert review processes.
- Ensure timely review and escalation of potentially suspicious activities to the FIU in line with established procedures and service level agreements.
- Conduct regular quality reviews and implement corrective actions to improve monitoring effectiveness and operational performance.
- Monitor operational performance, productivity, backlog management, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and oversee manual monitoring activities, including the development and maintenance of monitoring scripts and controls.
- Identify trends, typologies, emerging financial crime risks, monitoring gaps, and control weaknesses, and recommend appropriate enhancements.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT)



activities for transaction monitoring systems, system upgrades, new scenarios, and platform enhancements.
- Support the optimization, tuning, and continuous improvement of transaction monitoring rules, scenarios, and processes.
- Manage incidents affecting AML monitoring systems and controls, ensuring timely resolution, escalation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable AML/CFT regulations, policies, procedures, and monitoring standards.
- Support updates to AML procedures, processes, and control frameworks.
- Collaborate with FIU, Compliance, Risk, Technology, Operations, Product, Internal Audit, and other stakeholders to strengthen AML controls and monitoring effectiveness.
- Support internal audits, regulatory reviews, compliance assessments, and remediation initiatives.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc AML reports, management information, metrics, and dashboards to senior management and governance committees.
- Provide actionable insights on operational performance, monitoring effectiveness, emerging risks, and regulatory developments.
- Support enterprise-wide financial crime initiatives, projects, and regulatory change programmes.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex operational issues and monitoring-related matters.

Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of AML/CFT/PF regulations, financial crime risks, and regulatory expectations.
- Good understanding of transaction monitoring frameworks, alert management processes, and financial crime typologies.




- Experience working with AML transaction monitoring platforms, case management systems, and reporting tools.
- Understanding of monitoring rule development, scenario management, and monitoring effectiveness assessments.
- Experience managing UAT, system enhancements, and change management within AML environments.
- Ability to analyse large volumes of transactional and operational data and identify trends, anomalies, and risks.
- Strong reporting, analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.

Education & Experience

- Bachelors degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management, Law, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in AML/CFT, Transaction Monitoring, Financial Crime Operations, Compliance, Fraud Management, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, CFE, or other recognized Financial Crime Compliance qualifications.
- Experience within Banking, Mobile Money, FinTech, Payments, or other regulated financial services environments is preferred.
- Experience working with transaction monitoring systems, case management tools, and AML operational processes is desirable.
- Knowledge of AML/CFT regulatory requirements, financial crime typologies, and risk-based monitoring principles is preferred.
