Role & responsibilities

1. Job Purpose

To lead the technical, commercial and operational interface of the manufacturing business by ensuring optimum utilization of resources, cost efficiency, procurement effectiveness, production planning, quality, engineering coordination and commercial control.

The role will be responsible for integrating technical knowledge with commercial decision-making to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and support business growth.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Techno-Commercial Strategy

- Develop and implement techno-commercial strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Evaluate technical and commercial feasibility of new projects, products, machinery and processes.
- Conduct cost-benefit and ROI analysis for capital investments and process improvements.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical and commercial inputs to senior management for business decisions.

B. Procurement & Vendor Management

- Lead procurement of machinery, equipment, engineering materials, spares and other technical requirements.
- Identify, evaluate and develop suitable vendors.
- Negotiate commercial terms, prices, payment conditions and delivery schedules.
- Conduct technical and commercial evaluation of vendor quotations.
- Ensure optimum cost, quality and timely delivery.
- Develop alternate sources to reduce dependency and supply risk.

C. Project & Capex Management

- Lead techno-commercial evaluation of new projects and CAPEX proposals.
- Prepare project budgets and investment proposals.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Procurement and external vendors.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets and technical specifications.
- Ensure timely commissioning and stabilization of current equipment/projects.
- Track project ROI and post-implementation benefits.

D. Cost Optimization

- Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing and operational costs.
- Analyze material, energy, manpower, maintenance and overhead costs.
- Drive value engineering and process improvement initiatives.
- Benchmark costs against industry standards.




- Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or productivity.

E. Engineering & Technical Operations

- Coordinate with Engineering and Plant teams for machinery and equipment requirements.
- Ensure proper technical specifications and equipment selection.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
- Evaluate machinery performance, efficiency and lifecycle costs.
- Identify opportunities for automation and technology upgrades.

F. Commercial Management

- Review purchase orders, contracts, agreements and commercial terms.
- Ensure adherence to approved commercial policies.
- Monitor vendor payments, advances, warranties and contractual obligations.
- Manage commercial negotiations with suppliers and contractors.
- Ensure proper documentation and commercial compliance.

G. Production & Operations Support

- Work closely with Plant and Production teams to improve productivity.
- Support capacity planning and utilization improvement.
- Analyze production losses, downtime and operational bottlenecks.
- Drive initiatives to improve OEE and reduce production costs.
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.

H. Quality & Compliance

- Ensure purchased machinery, materials and services meet required technical specifications.
- Coordinate with Quality teams for vendor quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, safety and environmental requirements.
- Establish appropriate technical and commercial controls.

4. Candidate Profile

Education:

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial / Chemical Engineering or relevant technical discipline.
- MBA/PGDM in Operations, Supply Chain, Finance or Commercial Management will be an advantage.

Experience:

- 1218+ years of relevant experience in Techno-Commercial, Engineering, Procurement, Projects, Plant Operations or Manufacturing.
- Experience in FMCG, food processing, consumer goods or large-scale manufacturing preferred.
- Strong experience in CAPEX, technical procurement, vendor management and commercial negotiations.
- Experience in managing plant/projects and cross-functional teams is preferred.
