Job Purpose:

The QA & Documentation Coordinator will be responsible for quality inspection, quality assurance activities, preparation and control of technical documentation, and maintaining complete quality records for GRP/FRP/RIB boat-building projects.

The candidate should have robust practical knowledge of FRP/GRP boat construction and marine equipment, along with good documentation and coordination skills. The role will involve coordination with Production, Engineering, Procurement, Design, Customers, Shipyards, Class/Third-Party Inspectors, and Suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. QA/QC – GRP/FRP Boat Building

· Carry out stage-wise inspection of GRP/FRP/RIB boat construction as per approved drawings, specifications, SOTR, ITP and quality procedures.

· Inspect mould preparation, gelcoat application, lamination, hand lay-up, vacuum infusion, bonding and curing processes.

· Verify laminate ply sequence, fibre orientation, laminate thickness, overlaps, resin application and curing.

· Inspect installation and bonding of stringers, bulkheads, frames, floors and other structural components.

· Check for FRP defects such as delamination, voids, air entrapment, dry spots, cracks, resin-rich areas and improper bonding.

· Carry out dimensional and visual inspections of hull, deck, console and structural components.

· Inspect installation of marine equipment, fittings and systems as applicable.

· Coordinate and witness material testing, laminate testing, hardness testing, thickness measurement, NDT and other required inspections.

· Ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable marine/class/ISO standards.

· Raise and follow up NCRs, verify corrective actions and ensure proper closure.

2. Quality Documentation

· Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), Quality Plans, Inspection Checklists and Quality Control Formats.

· Prepare Inspection Reports, Test Reports, Material Inspection Reports and Stage Inspection Records.

· Maintain complete Material Traceability Records, including resin, glass fibre, core materials, adhesives, gelcoat and other composite materials.





· Collect and maintain Material Test Certificates (MTC), Certificates of Conformity (COC), calibration certificates and supplier certificates.

· Prepare and maintain NCR, Corrective Action and Closure Records.

· Maintain inspection and testing records for each boat/project.

· Prepare Quality Dossiers / Manufacturing Record Books (MRB) for completed boats.

· Compile documents required for customer, shipyard, class and third-party inspections.

· Ensure all drawings and documents used for inspection are the latest approved revisions.

· Maintain proper document numbering, revision control and traceability.

3. Project Documentation & Coordination

· Prepare documentation required for customer inspection, FAT, harbour trials, sea trials and final acceptance, as applicable.

· Coordinate with production and engineering teams to ensure that inspection records are completed on time.

· Follow up with suppliers for pending certificates, test reports and quality documents.

· Prepare document transmittals and submission registers for customer/shipyard approval.

· Maintain a proper document control system for project-related QA/QC records.

· Ensure timely submission and closure of customer comments on quality documents.

· Assist in preparing final handover documentation for completed vessels.

4. Required Qualifications

· Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Marine, Production, Naval Architecture, Composite/FRP Technology, or a related discipline.

· Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in QA/QC and documentation in the GRP/FRP boat-building or marine industry.

· Strong practical knowledge of FRP/GRP manufacturing and marine boat construction.

· Knowledge of quality documentation and inspection procedures is essential.

5. Required Skills & Knowledge

· Strong knowledge of GRP/FRP/RIB boat construction processes.





· Good understanding of lamination schedules, drawings, specifications and SOTR requirements.

· Knowledge of ITP, QAP, inspection checklists, NCR and quality procedures.

· Good knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and PDF/document management.

· Ability to prepare professional quality reports, inspection reports and technical documentation.

· Knowledge of ISO, Class, IMO and other applicable marine standards will be an advantage.

· Good communication and coordination skills.

· Ability to work with customers, shipyards and third-party inspectors.

6. Preferred Experience

Preference will be given to candidates having experience in:

· GRP/FRP/RIB/Patrol/Rescue/Workboat construction

· FRP lamination and structural bonding inspection

· Vacuum infusion/hand lay-up processes

· Marine equipment and outfitting inspection

· Customer and third-party inspection coordination

· Preparation of QA dossiers and final vessel handover documents

· Working with shipyards, defence/marine projects or classification societies

7. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Timely completion of all required inspections.

· Accuracy and completeness of QA/QC documentation.

· Proper material traceability and document control.

· Timely closure of NCRs and customer comments.

· Successful customer/third-party inspections.

· Reduction in rework and recurring quality issues.

· Timely completion and submission of final Quality Dossier/MRB.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be a hands-on QA/QC professional with 5+ years of GRP/FRP boat-building and marine experience, who can independently manage both shop-floor quality inspection and project quality documentation from the start of construction through final inspection and vessel handover.

Salary / CTC

Compensation will be offered based on the candidate’s relevant experience, technical skills, qualifications, and performance during the interview/evaluation process.
