We are looking for a dynamic and technically versatile Technology Lead to spearhead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade software solutions. The successful candidate will bring deep proficiency in both Python (Django) and Java (Spring Boot), paired with hands-on AWS cloud experience and a proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow high- performing engineering teams. As a Tech Lead, you will sit at the intersection of engineering excellence and people leadership.

You will own the technical direction of one or more squads, drive architectural decisions, ensure code quality, and act as the primary liaison between engineering and product/business stakeholders. You are expected to lead by example, writing production-quality code while enabling those around you to do the same. The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions: Technical Leadership and Architecture:

- Own the end-to-end technical vision for assigned products or streams, driving design decisions from ideation through production.
- Conduct architecture reviews and guide system design, API contracts, data modelling, and service boundaries.
- Champion engineering best practices: clean code, SOLID principles, design patterns, comprehensive test coverage, and documentation.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and tooling where they improve delivery speed, reliability, or maintainability.
- Lead technical threat-modelling sessions and ensure non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, security) are embedded in every design.

Python / Django Development

- Lead the development of back-end services, REST/GraphQL APIs, and data-processing pipelines using Python and Django.
- Establish coding standards, review PRs, and maintain a high bar for Python code quality across the team.
- Guide the team on Django ORM optimisation, DRF serialiser design, Celery task management, and secure session/auth patterns.
- Oversee database migration strategies and ensure zero-downtime deployment of schema changes.

Java / Spring Boot Development:

- Architect and develop microservices and enterprise integrations using Java and Spring Boot.
- Apply Spring ecosystem best practices: dependency injection, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, Spring Cloud, and Actuator for observability.
- Drive inter-service communication design (REST, gRPC, messaging via Kafka or RabbitMQ) and define service-level contracts.
- Guide team members on Java concurrency, JVM tuning, and performance profiling.

AWS Cloud and Infrastructure

- Define and oversee the cloud infrastructure strategy for team workloads on AWS.
- Govern CI/CD pipelines, IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), and deployment automation across environments.
- Ensure secure, cost-optimised, and resilient architectures leveraging appropriate AWS managed services.
- Act as the primary escalation point for production incidents, leading root-cause analysis and post-mortems.

Team and Project Management

- Manage day-to-day delivery of sprint commitments, maintaining velocity and proactively surfacing risks.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and continuously improve team processes.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through structured 1-on-1s, code reviews, and pairing sessions.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX, QA, and DevOps to define roadmaps, estimate effort, and prioritise work.

Requirements

- Overall Experience: Minimum 8 years.
- At least 8 years of progressive, commercial software engineering experience, with a clear trajectory from individual contributor toward technical leadership.
- Demonstrable history of owning and delivering complex, multi-tier applications in production environments with high availability and reliability requirements.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, including active participation in or facilitation of ceremonies.
- Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration across product, QA, design, and infrastructure teams.
- Python and Django: minimum 5 years.
- Candidates must demonstrate at least 5 years of production development using Python and Django: Python 3 x proficiency: async/await, type annotations, decorators, generators, context managers, and idiomatic Pythonic patterns.
- Deep familiarity with the Django framework core: ORM complex querysets, annotations, window functions, prefetch_related / select_related, and bulk operations.
- Middleware, signals, custom management commands, and the admin interface for internal tooling.
- Authentication and authorisation patterns including Django's built-in auth, JWT, OAuth2 and session security hardening.
- Extensive experience with Django REST Framework (DRF): serialisers (ModelSerializer, nested writable), viewsets, routers, permissions,



throttling, and API versioning.
- Asynchronous task processing with Celery + Redis or RabbitMQ: task routing, retry strategies, beat schedules, and monitoring with Flower.
- Testing excellence: pytest, Django TestCase, factory_boy, pytest-django, coverage reporting, and integration/E2E test strategies.
- Database expertise: PostgreSQL schema design, query optimisation (EXPLAIN ANALYZE), Django migrations at scale, and connection pooling (pgBouncer).
- Caching strategies with Redis or Memcached: cache invalidation patterns, cache- aside, write-through in a Django context.
- Django security best practices: CSRF, XSS, SQL injection prevention, secure cookie configuration, and rate limiting. Java and Spring Boot (minimum 5 years:
- Candidates must demonstrate at least 5 years of production development using Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong Java fundamentals: Java 11+ features (records, sealed classes, var), generics, streams/lambdas, concurrency utilities, and JVM internals (GC tuning, heap sizing).

Spring Boot expertise

- Spring MVC / WebFlux for reactive and imperative REST APIs.
- Spring Security OAuth2 resource servers, JWT validation, method-level security, and CORS configuration.
- Spring Data JPA / Hibernate entity mapping, lazy loading strategies, query optimisation, and transaction management.
- Spring Cloud Config Server, Service Discovery (Eureka), API Gateway, Circuit Breaker (Resilience4j).
- Spring Actuator, Micrometre, and integration with observability platforms.
- Microservices architecture: domain-driven design, bounded contexts, synchronous (REST/gRPC) and asynchronous (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) communication patterns.
- Containerisation of Java services: multi-stage Docker builds, JVM options for containers, and deployment on ECS or EKS.
- Testing: JUnit 5 Mockito, Spring Boot Test, Testcontainers, WireMock, and contract testing with Spring Cloud Contract or Pact.
- Build tooling: Maven or Gradle, dependency management, BOM usage, and multi- module project structures. AWS Cloud (minimum 2 years:
- Candidates must demonstrate at least 2 years of practical experience on AWS: Compute: EC2 (auto-scaling, launch templates), ECS (Fargate/EC2), EKS, and Lambda for event-driven workloads.
- Networking: VPC design (subnets, NACLs, security groups), ALB/NLB, API Gateway, CloudFront, Route 53 and VPC Endpoints / PrivateLink.
- Storage and Data: S3 (lifecycle, versioning, signed URLs, event notifications), RDS/Aurora (PostgreSQL/MySQL), DynamoDB, ElastiCache, and SQS/SNS.
- Security and Identity: IAM roles, permission boundaries, and least-privilege policies; AWS.
- Secrets Manager; KMS for key management; AWS WAF.

- Candidates must demonstrate at least 2 years in a team-lead, engineering-lead, or project-lead capacity:
- Experience managing a team of engineers, including workload distribution, performance feedback, and career development conversations.
- Delivery ownership: tracking sprint goals, managing scope changes, identifying blockers early, and communicating status to stakeholders.
- Agile/Scrum facilitation: sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and velocity tracking.
- Stakeholder management: translating technical constraints and trade-offs into language accessible to non-technical business stakeholders.
- Risk and dependency management: identifying technical debt, managing cross-team dependencies, and driving mitigations before they impact delivery.
- Onboarding and knowledge transfer: creating structured onboarding plans for new joiners and building team documentation culture.

Preferred Qualifications

- Exposure to LLM/Generative AI integrations: AWS Bedrock, LangChain, RAG pipelines, or vector databases.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, Grafana/Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
- Knowledge of API security standards: OAuth 2.0 OpenID Connect, mTLS.
- Prior experience in a regulated industry (banking, insurance, healthcare) with knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, ISO 27001 SOC 2).
