About the role

Documentation is how our healthcare and life sciences customers trust us with their most sensitive workloads. In regulated environments, a clear, accurate, auditable document isn't a nice-to-have — it's evidence, it's enablement, and it's the difference between a smooth audit and a stalled one.

As a Technical Writer, Healthcare, you'll create the content that helps healthcare providers, payers, health-tech ISVs, and life sciences organizations run HIPAA-eligible, HITRUST- and SOC 2-aligned workloads on HGS's managed multicloud platforms with confidence. You'll translate complex cloud, security, and compliance concepts into content that a hospital's security officer, a customer's auditor, and a member on the delivery team can all rely on. You'll partner deeply with Solution Architects, Delivery, Security & GRC, Compliance, and Product — and you'll own a controlled-documentation practice built for accuracy, consistency, and traceability.

What you'll do

- Author regulated, customer-facing documentation — solution and implementation guides for HIPAA-eligible environments, onboarding and enablement content, knowledge base articles, conceptual overviews, and release notes for HGS healthcare offerings.
- Document the compliance story — produce and maintain shared-responsibility matrices, control-mapping references, and plain-language explanations of how HGS services support HIPAA (Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules), the HITRUST CSF, and SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria.
- Write the operational backbone — standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and playbooks for regulated workloads (for example, access reviews, encryption key rotation, incident response, and audit-evidence collection), working from technical specs, SME interviews, and hands-on validation.
- Support audit and assurance — help assemble and maintain audit-ready artifacts and evidence documentation, and keep control narratives current as environments and regulations evolve.




- Own a controlled-documentation lifecycle — manage content through draft, review, approval, versioning, and retirement, so every published document is accurate, dated, and traceable to an owner and a source.
- Set and enforce standards — maintain the healthcare content style guide, templates, terminology, and information architecture; remove duplication by building reusable, single-source content.
- Collaborate to get it right — partner with Solution Architects, Delivery, Security & GRC, Compliance, Legal, and Product to ensure content is technically accurate, compliant, and useful; nothing ships without SME and, where required, compliance sign-off.
- Measure and improve — use customer feedback, support-ticket trends, and content analytics to find gaps, retire stale content, and prove that documentation is reducing friction.

Who you are

- A strong, clear writer who makes complex, high-stakes information easy to trust — and who defends the Oxford comma and terminology consistency with equal conviction.
- Comfortable in regulated territory: you understand that in healthcare, “close enough” isn't, and you're careful about what a document does and doesn't claim.
- Endlessly curious and self-directed — you'll interview SMEs, read the spec, test the workflow yourself, and trace it end-to-end before you write.
- Deeply collaborative, calm under changing priorities, and able to run several documentation projects at once without dropping traceability.

Minimum qualifications

- 3+ years of technical writing experience, with a portfolio demonstrating clear technical documentation (please include or link samples).




- Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts precisely for mixed audiences (practitioners, administrators, and non-technical stakeholders).
- Working familiarity with at least one regulatory or security framework relevant to healthcare — HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, or SOC 2 — and comfort writing about controls, safeguards, and evidence.
- Proficiency with modern documentation tooling — for example, Markdown, a content management or knowledge base system (such as Confluence), and version control (Git).
- Proven ability to partner with subject-matter experts and manage a document through a structured review-and-approval process.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, a technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer; this role is not sponsorship eligible.

Preferred qualifications

- Experience writing in a healthcare, health-tech, life sciences, or otherwise regulated workplace.
- Hands-on experience with controlled documentation and change control, and producing audit-ready or assurance-related content.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud) and a cloud fundamentals certification (for example, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals).
- Understanding of the shared-responsibility model for managed/hosted environments and concepts such as PHI/ePHI, Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), encryption in transit and at rest, RBAC, MFA, and audit logging.
- Exposure to life sciences / GxP contexts (for example, 21 CFR Part 11) or medical-device documentation standards.
- Experience with a docs-as-code workflow, structured authoring, API/integration documentation, and diagramming.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum ways of working.
- Active in the profession (for example, the Society for Technical Communication).
