About the Staff Engineer role…

The Staff Engineer is a key driver of complex engineering initiatives, mentoring engineers, and setting technical direction within SiteMinder’s technical domain. The Staff Engineer is responsible for design and delivery, acting as the technical domain custodian to maintain system resilience and scalability, as well as building new technology and solution capabilities.

The Staff Engineer should operate with a high degree of autonomy and be accountable for building scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that meet business needs.

What you’ll do…

- Perform spikes on backlog items to identify risks and clarify scope.
- Lead other engineers in defining technical requirements.
- Provide solution options during research and delivery.
- Help the team decide on solution decomposition and implementation plans.
- Conduct technical change impact evaluations.
- Write detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured project and architecture documentation.
- Independently lead and complete solution development for complex projects.
- Prior experience in hospitality, technology, and Global Distribution Systems (GDS) is highly desirable.
- Contribute to and lead standards within guilds.
- Be responsible for scalability and reliability improvements across your portfolio, following industry best practices and working with peers to ensure consistency.
- Define system resilience and performance strategies at a portfolio/project level.
- Act as a key driver in identifying and implementing improvements in our Ways of Working,



ensuring the team maintains a culture of continuous learning and is always looking for ways to improve engineering processes.
- Mentor, train, and coach other engineers.
- Provide people leadership to engineers when required.

What you have…

- Experience in engineering across multiple programming languages and technologies, including JVM, Node.js, and Vue.js.
- Experience coaching engineers and developing engineering practices.
- Experience facilitating requirements gathering and solution design.
- Strong complex problem-solving skills and forward-thinking ability to support and manage escalated technical challenges and issues.
- AWS experience with EC2, Kinesis, SQS, ElastiCache, Lambda, S3, etc.
- In-depth experience in microservices and API architecture and solution design.
- Qualified experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and key-value/document databases (DynamoDB, Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis).
- Experience continuously improving code quality, testing, pipelines, and CI/CD systems.
- Curious mindset with a continuous focus on improving technology stacks, automation, and testing.
