Role & responsibilities

- Own the analysis and resolution of all database-related support tickets, including slow screens, timeouts, deadlocks, and data issues.

- Analyse execution plans and tune queries, stored procedures, views and functions for better performance.

- Design and improve indexes, and maintain statistics, based on actual workload patterns.

- Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks and concurrency problems.

- Use Query Store, Extended Events and DMVs to monitor and troubleshoot performance.

- Trace application problems from Spring Boot / JPA / Hibernate code to the generated SQL, and guide Java developers on fixes such as N+1 queries, fetch strategies and batching.

- Review database changes and complex queries written by the development team before release.

- Write and review data fix scripts safely for production support cases.

- Build a deep understanding of the product's data model, and support the BA and QA teams with data-related questions.

- Create and maintain a troubleshooting playbook, and mentor team members on SQL Server best practices.

Preferred candidate profile

- 58 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server development.





- Robust T-SQL skills, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, temp tables and dynamic SQL.

- Proven experience in query performance tuning and execution plan analysis.

- Solid knowledge of indexing strategies, statistics, and parameter sniffing issues.

- Good understanding of transactions, isolation levels, locking and deadlock analysis.

- Hands-on experience with Query Store, Extended Events and DMVs.

- Working knowledge of how Java applications interact with databases, including JPA/Hibernate and JDBC.

- Strong analytical and root-cause analysis skills.

- Good communication skills to explain database issues to developers and non-technical stakeholders.

Good to Have

- Experience in a product support or application maintenance environment.

- Basic understanding of Spring Boot applications.

- Exposure to APM tools such as New Relic, AppDynamics, Dynatrace or Elastic APM.

- Experience with SQL Server 2016 or later versions.

- Knowledge of utility, energy or ERP domain applications.
