With expertise in complex organic synthesis, process development, and scale-up, Chemco specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced pharmaceutical intermediates and Key Starting Materials (KSMs).

As part of our expansion into GMP-aligned manufacturing, we are strengthening our R&D; team to support new product development, process optimization, and commercialization.

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Senior R&D; Chemist to work directly under the R&D; Head and support the complete product development lifecycle—from literature research, route selection, and paper costing to laboratory synthesis, process optimization, piloting, and commercial scale-up.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in process R&D; within the pharmaceutical intermediates or API industry, with the ability to develop commercially viable and scalable manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Literature Research & Process Feasibility

- Conduct scientific literature and patent searches to identify suitable synthetic routes.
- Evaluate routes based on yield, raw material availability, safety, scalability, and commercial viability.
- Prepare reaction schemes, stoichiometric calculations, material balances, and preliminary paper costing.
- Support preliminary Freedom to Operate (FTO) assessments.

1. Laboratory Process Development





- Execute multi-step organic synthesis and independently manage assigned experiments.
- Optimize reaction conditions, yields, purity, and process efficiency.
- Develop and optimize isolation, crystallization, filtration, and drying processes.
- Investigate process-related issues and establish reproducible laboratory procedures.
- Identify opportunities for raw material and manufacturing cost reduction.

1. Piloting & Scale-Up

- Support laboratory-to-pilot and pilot-to-commercial scale-up activities.
- Understand critical scale-up factors, including heat transfer, mixing, reaction kinetics, and process safety.
- Participate in pilot plant trials, process troubleshooting, and yield optimization.
- Coordinate with production teams during technology transfer and initial commercial batches.

1. Documentation & Analytical Support

- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, experiment reports, and process development records.
- Prepare process flow diagrams, material balances, batch instructions, and technology transfer documentation.
- Interpret HPLC, GC, FTIR, and other analytical results in coordination with QC.
- Support impurity profiling, in-process controls, and product specification development.

1. Cross-Functional Coordination & Compliance

- Work closely with the R&D; Head, Production, QA/QC, and Procurement teams.




- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, ISO standards, and applicable GMP/GLP practices.
- Support process risk assessments, deviation investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Requirements Education : B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Experience: 4–7 years in industrial Process R&D;

Industry: APIs, pharmaceutical intermediates, KSMs, or specialty chemicals

Core Expertise

Organic synthesis, route development, process optimization

Scale-up Experience

Laboratory-to-pilot experience essential; commercial scale-up preferred

Analytical Knowledge

HPLC, GC, FTIR, and impurity profiling

Documentation

Process development reports, material balances, technology transfer

Preferred Experience

- Experience in process R&D; at an API or pharmaceutical intermediate manufacturing company.
- Exposure to nitration, hydrogenation, and other industrial organic transformations.
- Experience preparing preliminary manufacturing costs and optimizing process economics.
- Familiarity with GMP documentation, process safety, and manufacturing operations.

Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹600,000.00 per year
