We work at the intersection of data, technology, design and social science to strengthen data for public good ecosystem and citizen participation in governance. CivicDataLab (CDL) harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think-tanks, media houses and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to better data-driven decision-making at scale. Our current areas of expertise include digital public goods & infrastructure (DPGs & DPI), climate action, public finance, urban development, open contracting and law & justice. We have co-created digital public goods like open data platforms, data exchanges, AI models and citizen-led apps for improving participatory data-driven governance in India and other countries.

What are we looking for

CivicDataLab is looking for a Senior Mentor and Curriculum Lead to support two AI and digital technology cohorts focused on strengthening the capacity of civil society and non-profit organisations. The role combines curriculum development, training delivery, and hands-on mentoring. The Senior Mentor will develop practical AI learning modules, conduct training sessions, and support participating organisations in applying AI and digital tools to their work. The role will work across two programmes:

- AI and Digital Tools Capacity Building: Supporting civil society organisations to build practical skills and confidence in using AI and digital tools.
- Local & Inclusive AI: Mentoring NGOs in strengthening and extending their existing AI solutions to better respond to the needs of their users.

Requirements

The Senior Mentor will work closely with the CivicDataLab programme team, subject-matter experts and participating organisations to ensure that the learning and mentoring is practical, accessible and grounded in real organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the learning design for both cohorts, translating project objectives and participant needs into module plans, learning outcomes,



exercises and assessment approaches.
- Develop curriculum across practical AI and digital tool use for CSOs, including proposal writing and documentation, data analysis and visualisation, digital communication, and workflow management.
- Adapt the learning pathway for different levels of digital literacy. Produce transparent facilitator guides, demonstrations, practice materials, tool kits and resources that participants can use after the sessions.
- Work with CDL subject experts, instructional designers and guest facilitators to develop and review content. Prepare facilitators to deliver consistent, useful sessions.
- Personally conduct training sessions, workshops, demonstrations and hands-on learning sessions across the two cohorts.
- Guide NGOs through diagnosis of their existing AI solutions, selection of a local-language or voice use case, technical options, prototyping, user testing and adoption planning. Bring in specialist support where a use case requires it.
- Facilitate selected workshops, mentoring clinics and technical discussions. Help participants apply tools to their own organisational workflows and troubleshoot barriers to use.
- Build responsible AI practices into the curriculum and mentoring, including privacy, consent, bias, safety, human oversight, accessibility and testing with intended users.
- Pilot learning materials and activities, use participant feedback and assessment results to improve them, and prepare editable resources and documentation for reuse.

- Documentation of learning, participant experiences and programme insights.
- Reusable knowledge products and resources emerging from the cohorts.

What is Required

- At least 3-5 years of experience in AI or data capacity building, technical mentoring, instructional design, or a closely related field, with substantial experience developing and delivering learning programmes.
- Strong working knowledge of practical AI and digital tools, including their use in documentation, data analysis, communication or organisational workflows.
- Ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences and design hands-on learning for participants with different skills, devices and connectivity.
- Experience advising organisations on a technical use case from problem definition through tool selection, testing and adoption. Experience with language technology, voice interfaces or localisation is especially valuable.
- Familiarity with responsible AI, data protection, accessibility and the challenges of deploying technology with communities or frontline teams.
- Strong writing and editorial skills, with a portfolio of learning materials, toolkits, workshops or comparable resources.
- Experience collaborating with subject experts, product teams and programme staff, and the judgement to identify when a specialist should lead a technical decision.
- Experience working with NGOs or other public interest organisations is strongly preferred.
