Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer with strong hands-on experience in MySQL, InnoDB, database design, SQL development, and performance optimization.

The candidate will work on financial transaction systems involving money movement, orders, payments, ledgers, balances, settlements, and reconciliation. The role requires someone who can design solutions, identify database issues, implement fixes, and automate database operations, rather than simply monitor and escalate issues.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop scalable MySQL database schemas for transactional systems.
- Write, review and optimize complex SQL queries.
- Analyze execution plans using EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE.
- Identify and optimize missing, redundant, duplicate and unused indexes.
- Perform MySQL and InnoDB performance tuning.
- Troubleshoot locks, waits, deadlocks, replication issues and connection saturation.
- Develop automated processes for data purging, archival and retention management.
- Implement safe and validated purge jobs with reconciliation and rollback mechanisms.
- Build automation for detecting slow-running and blocking queries using Slow Query Log, Performance Schema, sys schema and pt-query-digest.
- Design and maintain database constraints including Primary Key, Foreign Key, Unique and Check constraints.
- Design databases for financial transactions, payments, ledgers, balances, settlement and reconciliation.
- Implement transactional safeguards such as ACID transactions, isolation levels and idempotency.




- Ensure financial data integrity and prevent duplicate or inconsistent transactions.
- Design and review schema changes, migrations and database refactoring.
- Perform online schema changes and low-downtime migrations.
- Monitor database health including CPU, memory, disk I/O, replication lag, locks, waits and connection usage.
- Maintain database documentation including ER diagrams, data dictionaries and configuration baselines.
- Work closely with application teams to resolve database and query performance issues.

Mandatory Skills
- 7+ years of hands-on production experience with MySQL
- Strong experience in MySQL database design and development
- Strong understanding of InnoDB
- Experience with Schema Design and Database Architecture
- Advanced SQL and Query Optimization
- Strong knowledge of EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE
- Experience with Indexing and Execution Plan Analysis
- Strong understanding of MVCC, locking and deadlocks
- Experience with MySQL Replication
- Robust understanding of ACID and transaction management
- Experience with financial transaction systems
- Experience with payments, ledgers, balances, settlement or reconciliation
- Experience in FinTech / BFSI / Banking / Payments / Lending / Insurance / Broking / Wealth
- Experience with data retention, archival and purging
- Experience with Python or Shell scripting




- Experience with performance tuning and optimization
- Experience with online schema changes and low-downtime migrations
- Working knowledge of Grafana or CloudWatch

Valuable to Have
- Experience with AWS Aurora MySQL
- Aurora parameter groups, read replicas and failover
- Partitioning and sharding
- Experience handling multi-hundred-GB / TB-scale databases
- Backup and restore design
- Knowledge of RPO and RTO
- Understanding of data protection and audit requirements in financial systems
- Experience with pt-query-digest
- Experience with Slow Query Log and Performance Schema

Preferred Domain Experience Candidates with experience in the following domains will be preferred:

Experience working with transactions, orders, payments, ledgers, balances, settlements and reconciliation systems is highly relevant.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a hands-on database engineer who can design, troubleshoot, optimize and implement database solutions.

This is not a dashboard monitoring and escalation role. The candidate should be capable of identifying the root cause of database issues and implementing the appropriate solution.
