Key responsibilities:
1. Client calls and relationships
- Get on client calls regularly - not just when something's on fire. You're the face of delivery for your portfolio.
- Build real working relationships with founders, finance heads and their teams, so trust exists before you ever need it.
- Use calls to understand the client's business rhythm, upcoming pressures and unstated expectations - and feed that back into the delivery plan.
- Run client status reviews and onboarding calls; leave every conversation with clear decisions, owners and dates.
2. Own delivery and timelines
- Build and maintain a delivery plan per client: scope, recurring deliverables, owners, client inputs, review stages, TATs, due dates.
- Drive on-time delivery across monthly close, bookkeeping, MIS, financial reporting, tax/compliance handoffs, budgets and forecasts.
- Flag upcoming statutory dates to the subject-matter owner - a calendar reminder is not technical sign-off.
- Set priorities, allocate work, watch capacity and backlog, remove blockers before they put a commitment at risk.
- Nothing reaches a client unreviewed or incomplete; you close out corrections and open items.
3. Lead the team
- Lead the delivery team day to day - build rapport, set the tone, and be the person they escalate to without hesitation.
- Allocate work fairly across the team, spot overload early, and coach juniors on quality and turnaround habits.
- Run short, regular internal reviews: what's on track, what's stuck, who needs help.
- Keep the team aligned with client promises - everyone knows what was committed and by when.
4. Manage client expectations
- Agree realistic timelines and input requirements at kickoff; confirm any change in scope, priority or date with the client and internal lead.
- Raise risks early, with impact and a recovery plan - never announce a missed date after the fact.
- Own delivery queries and escalations end to end, coordinating across VCFO, accounting, tax and legal.
5. Run delivery governance
- Maintain one live view of all commitments: status, overdue items, client dependencies, escalation owners.
- Track and improve the numbers: on-time delivery %, TAT adherence, rework, overdue aging, escalation resolution time.
- Lead new-client transitions into VCFO: agreed scope, owners, reporting cadence, contacts, first-delivery plan.
Key requirements:
- Strong audit background - mandatory.
- 6-8 years of experience in a similar field (VCFO services, CA/advisory firm, outsourced finance & accounting, or comparable client-facing finance delivery).
- Qualified CA preferred - but open to candidates with equivalent hands-on experience managing books at scale.
- Has personally managed high-volume books and multiple concurrent client engagements.
- Has led or managed a team - not just delivered individually.
- Strong phone/video presence; genuinely enjoys client conversations, not just tolerates them.
- Working command of accounting and reporting cycles, MIS, month-end close, and tax/compliance coordination.
- Transparent, direct communication - comfortable delivering hard news early, with a plan.
Why this role matters: Our clients feel Treelife through delivery. You are the person who makes "on time, every time" true.
