Overview

We are seeking an experienced Radio Engineer II to deliver radiofrequency and wireless system designs for railway, metro, light rail, depot, station, tunnel and building projects. The successful candidate will be an expert user of Ekahau and iBwave, with international experience in predictive modelling, surveys, coverage analysis, design optimisation and technical assurance.

Your Role

- Develop concept, tender and detailed designs for Wi-Fi, TETRA, public-safety radio, cellular DAS, LTE/5G, private mobile radio and other project-specific wireless systems.
- Prepare radio and wireless architectures for stations, platforms, tunnels, depots, workshops, stabling areas, control centres, trackside areas and buildings.
- Perform RF propagation modelling, coverage and capacity analysis, interference assessment, frequency/channel planning, link-budget calculations, and design optimisation.
- Determine access-point, antenna, remote-radio-unit and repeater locations based on project requirements, validated survey inputs and applicable design criteria.
- Design passive and active DAS solutions, including antennas, feeders, splitters, couplers, combiners, cable routes and associated equipment.
- Coordinate designs with architecture, civil, MEP, signalling, rolling stock, operations, security, fire and life safety, and IT/network disciplines.
- Prepare design reports, architecture and block diagrams, heat maps, coverage plots, equipment schedules, BOQ/BOM, specifications, interface documents and as-built records.
- Prepare and review survey, FAT, SAT, coverage-acceptance and commissioning procedures;
- Lead assigned design packages and provide technical guidance to CAD/BIM designers for Radio drawings.
- Software and RF Design Expertise

Ekahau

- Create predictive Wi-Fi models using floor plans, wall types, attenuation values, antenna characteristics and project design criteria.
- Perform access-point placement, channel and power planning, capacity modelling and coverage validation for high-density and operationally critical environments.
- Plan and perform passive,



active and spectrum surveys; analyse results and prepare professional survey and validation reports.

iBwave

- Develop iBwave models for in-building radio, cellular, public-safety and mission-critical coverage in buildings, stations, tunnels and depots.
- Configure building geometry, construction materials, RF sources, antennas and propagation parameters for reliable predictive modelling.
- Prepare DAS schematics, riser diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, link budgets and coverage-compliance reports, coordinated with CAD/BIM deliverables.

Mandatory Technical Skills

- Expert practical experience with Ekahau for predictive Wi-Fi design, survey planning, survey analysis and reporting.
- Expert practical experience with iBwave for in-building radio, DAS and RF coverage design.
- Strong knowledge of RF propagation, path loss, fading, attenuation, link budgets, antenna characteristics, interference, signal quality and capacity planning.
- Design experience in Wi-Fi and at least two of the following: TETRA, public-safety radio, cellular DAS, LTE/5G, private mobile radio or tunnel radio.
- Experience with indoor and outdoor wireless surveys, RF test methods and coverage acceptance.
- Ability to interpret architectural, civil, MEP, railway and telecom drawings and coordinate within AutoCAD/Revit/BIM environments.
- Knowledge of IP networking, VLANs, QoS, PoE and fibre connectivity supporting wireless systems.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines, including IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standards, ETSI and Ofcom/FCC regulations, EN 50121 EMC requirements, and applicable railway telecommunications standards.
- Experience in radio systems, including leaky feeder, radiating cable,



tunnel DAS, distributed antenna systems, and emergency communications coverage.
- Understanding of interfaces with SCADA, signalling, PA/VA, CCTV, passenger information systems, operational telephony, and transmission networks.
- Robust technical writing, design-calculation, stakeholder coordination and multidisciplinary communication skills.

Rail and International Experience

- Demonstrated radio design experience on railway, metro, light rail, station, depot, tunnel or transportation-infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated wireless design experience for complex or high-occupancy buildings.
- Experience delivering projects across multiple countries or regions and working with geographically distributed teams.
- Ability to apply project requirements, client standards, local regulations and international engineering practices.

About You

- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 7-10 years of relevant radio, wireless or RF design experience, including substantial hands-on use of Ekahau and iBwave.
- Proven experience producing complete radio-design deliverables for both rail and building environments.
- Relevant Ekahau and/or iBwave certification is preferred; vendor wireless certification is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and deliver accurate work within approved scope, programme and budget.
- Willingness to support international projects, client meetings and site activities where required.
