ROLE PURPOSE
RightWalk Foundation (RWF) addresses poverty and inequality by activating transformative social policies end to end, through Policy Advocacy, System Design, Capacity Building and Efficient Delivery — engaging System Leadership, Lawmakers and Communities. This work has unlocked policies such as RTE 12.1(c) in Uttar Pradesh, directly impacting over 800,000 children across 75 districts and 20,000 schools, and has activated Apprenticeship policy in several states, enabling over 70,000 youth to find skilling and employment opportunities.
The Manager, Strategic Communications works with the PMU Head – Maharashtra and Senior Management overseeing Strategic Communications on the planning and implementation of RWF's stakeholder communications and outreach in the state. This role owns all communication channels for the Maharashtra PMU and positions RightWalk as an influencer and implementer of public policies promoting equity, inclusion and justice — working closely with teams across the PMU's key focus areas.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY The list below illustrates the scope of responsibilities and is not exhaustive — other tasks may be required or assigned as needed. These responsibilities are supported by existing team members who report into this position.
1. Communications Strategy
- Develop and deliver the strategic communications plan to support the Foundation's objectives, extend awareness of its work, and increase its reach into key sectors and audience groups.
- Devise communications plans around all active programs/projects of the PMU.
- Work with the management team and staff to identify potential internal and external communications opportunities and threats, and proactively manage them.
- Serve as a communications adviser to the PMU management team.
- Conceptualise and implement the communications plan,
including design and dissemination of RWF's knowledge collaterals and key accomplishments.
- Prepare the editorial calendar and manage content and outreach for RWF's digital properties — website updates, blog, newsletters, videos, and social media channels.
- Manage RWF's brand assets and brand toolkit, updating them on a regular basis.
2. Communications Operations
- Write blogs, create videos and articles for internal newsletters, and draft opinion editorials for external media outlets.
- Network and develop strategic relationships with media and key ecosystem influencers.
- Evaluate and apply relevant, innovative communication tools and dissemination methods to maximise content engagement and message efficacy.
- Oversee the prioritisation and delivery of all PMU communications, including press and PR activity, print and digital communications, and stakeholder relationship management activities.
- Work with programme directors/managers to agree communications frameworks for delivery partners on tendered projects — establishing responsibility areas, reporting and evaluation measures, and monitoring activity.
3. Management
- Ensure accountability for delivery against pre-defined outcomes.
- Ensure accountability for program delivery and a focus on improving quality of outcomes.
- Support career development and talent planning across the team.
- Undertake the administrative tasks necessary to ensure effective delivery of specified tasks to agreed timelines.
- Ensure effective and economic manpower planning for operational management.
- Drive a culture of coaching and mentorship to build team capacity.
- Coordinate with outside agencies for website design/development/maintenance and marketing materials.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Qualification: Post-graduate degree in Communication or Management, with knowledge of the social sector.
- Experience: 5–7 years of work experience with demonstrated success in communications, influencer outreach, and public relations.
- Team leadership: Experience growing and managing team members.
- Sector interest: Demonstrated interest in the social enterprise sector.
- Language: High fluency in English; medium fluency in Hindi.
- Tools: Ability to create content using Canva, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Publisher; basic knowledge of video editing software.
- Work style: Able to work independently and proactively, with little supervision and without dedicated support staff.
- Communication: Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Planning: Strong organisational skills, with the ability to set priorities, plan timelines and meet deadlines.
- Desired qualities: Entrepreneurial spirit and a “get-it-done” attitude; comfortable in a small-organisation setting where teamwork and resourcefulness are valued; strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
