Role Summary

We are seeking a OpenWRT QA Test Engineer with strong experience in embedded Linuxbased networking platforms. The role involves validating OpenWRT firmware for routers/gateways, ensuring high-quality releases through functional, system, regression, and automation testing, while adhering to industry-standard QA processes.

Key Responsibilities

Firmware & Platform Testing

- Perform end-to-end QA testing of OpenWRT-based firmware on routers, gateways, and IoT devices
- Validate customized OpenWRT builds, packages, and kernel configurations
- Test device bring-up, boot, upgrade/downgrade, factory reset, and recovery modes

Networking & Protocol Validation

- Test core networking features:

- LAN/WAN routing

- IPv4/IPv6
- NAT, VLAN, DHCP, DNS
- QoS, Firewall (iptables/nftables)
- Test broadband technologies (based on project):
- Ethernet, PPPoE, VLAN tagging

- LTE/5G failover (if applicable)

Test Planning & Execution

- Analyze requirements, architecture documents, and use cases

- Prepare

- Test plans

- Test scenarios

- Detailed test cases
- Execute manual test cases and support automation execution
- Perform smoke, sanity, regression, performance, and stability testing

Automation & Tools

- Contribute to test automation using:

- Python / Shell scripting
- OpenWRT CLI (UCI, ubus)

- Validate logs via
- syslog




- dmesg
- kernel crash logs
- Work with CI/CD pipelines where applicable (Jenkins, Git)

Defect Management & Reporting

- Identify, log, track, and verify defects using tools like:
- JIRA / Azure DevOps / Bugzilla
- Perform root cause analysis with developers
- Prepare test summary reports and release sign-off documentation

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

- 3 to 8 years of experience in Embedded / Networking QA
- Robust hands-on experience with OpenWRT

- Good understanding of

- Embedded Linux architecture

- Shell scripting

- Linux networking stack

- Solid networking fundamentals
- TCP/IP, OSI layers
- Routing & switching basics

- Experience with router/gateway testing

Tools & Environment

- Linux command line expertise
- Bug tracking tools (JIRA or equivalent)
- Test management tools
- Exposure to automation frameworks is a plus

Good-to-Have Skills

- Experience in Router OEM / ISP projects
- WiFi certification testing experience
- Performance testing using iperf, netperf
- Experience working with global customers

Educational Qualification

- B.E / B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech in:
- Electronics & Communication

- Computer Science

- Electrical / Instrumentation (or equivalent)
