Medical Director

Department: Medical Administration / Clinical Operations

Reports To: CEO / Managing Director

1. Job Purpose To provide strategic clinical leadership and medical governance across the hospital, ensuring delivery of safe, ethical, evidence-based and patient-centric care. The Medical Director will work closely with clinical and administrative leadership to maintain high standards of clinical practice, patient safety, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

2. Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Governance

- Provide overall clinical leadership across all medical departments and specialties.
- Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical practices, protocols and treatment pathways.
- Establish and strengthen clinical governance systems across the hospital.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, patient safety, quality indicators and service performance.
- Lead clinical review meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, peer reviews and clinical audits.
- Promote multidisciplinary coordination and effective communication among consultants, nursing and allied healthcare teams.

Medical Administration

- Coordinate with HODs and consultants on clinical, operational and patient-care matters.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, credentialing and privileging of medical professionals.
- Monitor professional conduct, clinical performance and compliance with hospital policies.
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Support capacity planning, recent clinical services and development of Centres of Excellence.

Patient Safety & Clinical Quality

- Ensure patient safety remains a core priority across clinical services.
- Review critical incidents,



adverse events and sentinel events and ensure appropriate corrective actions.
- Ensure appropriate clinical documentation, informed consent and medical record practices.
- Address escalated clinical complaints and support resolution of complex patient-care concerns.
- Work closely with the Quality Head to implement quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives.

Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance

- Ensure clinical services comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clinical leadership for NABH and other accreditation requirements.
- Ensure appropriate medical documentation and compliance with professional and ethical standards.
- Support medico-legal matters in coordination with the hospital management and legal team.

Transplant & Super-Specialty Services

- Provide clinical oversight for transplant and other super-specialty programs.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary transplant and complex-case discussions.
- Monitor transplant outcomes, clinical pathways and patient safety measures.
- Ensure appropriate donor and recipient evaluation, documentation and clinical governance.
- Support development and expansion of specialized clinical programs.

Academic & Professional Development

- Encourage continuing medical education, clinical research and evidence-based practice.
- Facilitate CME programs, clinical meetings and professional development initiatives.




- Promote a culture of learning, clinical excellence and continuous improvement.

5. Qualifications & Experience

- MBBS with postgraduate qualification (MD/MS/DNB) in a relevant specialty.
- Additional qualification in Hospital Administration/Healthcare Management would be an advantage.
- Significant experience in clinical practice and hospital leadership.
- Experience in a tertiary care, super-specialty or transplant hospital is preferred.
- Experience in clinical governance, accreditation and quality systems is desirable.
