Role Purpose

As part of the Estates Directorate, you will maintain, service, and repair plumbing, heating, and water infrastructure across our 500-acre campus. From teaching facilities and laboratory complexes to student accommodation, you will play a critical role in keeping campus buildings safe, compliant, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

- Planned &
- Reactive Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing, fault-finding, and emergency repairs on domestic hot/cold water services, sanitary appliances, and heating systems across campus.
- Compliance &
- Safety: Conduct water hygiene monitoring (including Legionella preventative tasks, temperature testing, and flushing) in accordance with L8 guidelines.
- System Installations: Perform pipework modifications, bathroom suite refurbishments, and heating/radiator upgrades during minor works and planned refurbishments.
- Diagnostics &
- Work Requests: Use the digital Facilities Management (CAFM) system to receive, log, and prioritize daily work orders.
- Customer Service: Work safely and respectfully around students, staff,



and visitors in occupied residential and academic spaces.

Essential Criteria

- Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing &
- Heating (or equivalent recognised apprenticeship / City &
- Guilds qualification).
- Experience: Proven post-qualification maintenance experience in a commercial, building services, or large institutional setting.
- Safety Awareness: Sound understanding of Health &
- Safety regulations, risk assessments, and COSHH standards.
- Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence (required for driving university service vehicles on campus).
- Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills when interacting with campus residents.

Desirable Criteria

- Valid Gas Safe registration (Domestic/Commercial).
- Unvented hot water systems qualification (G3).
- Prior experience working within higher education or student housing environments.
