1. Job Summary

Devanika Hospital & Research Center is looking for a dedicated and responsible Hospital Infection Control Nurse (ICN) to support the hospital's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program. The Infection Control Nurse will be responsible for monitoring infection-control practices, conducting surveillance, promoting hand hygiene, monitoring healthcare-associated infections, supporting staff training, conducting audits and ensuring compliance with hospital infection-control policies and protocols.

The candidate will work closely with doctors, nursing staff, housekeeping, laboratory, OT, ICU, CSSD, biomedical waste management and hospital administration to maintain high standards of infection prevention and patient safety.

1. Educational Qualification

Minimum Qualification:

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.

Preferred:

- Certificate/Diploma in Infection Control.
- Training in Infection Prevention & Control.
- Experience in NABH-accredited or quality-focused healthcare facilities.

1. Experience

- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant nursing experience preferred.
- Experience in infection control, ICU, OT, hospital quality or clinical nursing will be an advantage.
- Prior experience as an Infection Control Nurse will be preferred.

1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Infection Prevention & Control Monitoring

- Monitor compliance with hospital infection-control policies and SOPs.
- Conduct regular rounds of clinical and non-clinical areas.
- Monitor adherence to standard precautions and transmission-based precautions.
- Identify infection-control gaps and report them to the concerned department.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Follow up on implementation of corrective measures.

B. Hand Hygiene & PPE Compliance
- Monitor hand-hygiene compliance across hospital departments.
- Conduct hand-hygiene audits and maintain records.
- Educate staff regarding the correct use of hand hygiene and PPE.
- Monitor appropriate use of gloves, masks, gowns and other PPE.
- Conduct awareness activities and refresher training as required.

C. Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Surveillance
- Participate in surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.
- Monitor infection trends in areas such as ICU, OT, wards and other high-risk departments.
- Maintain appropriate infection-control surveillance records.
- Coordinate with doctors, nursing staff and laboratory personnel regarding suspected or identified infections.
- Report significant infection-control findings to the Infection Control Committee/authorized management.




- Support investigation of infection clusters or suspected outbreaks.

D. OT, ICU & High-Risk Area Monitoring
- Conduct regular infection-control rounds in ICU, OT, Emergency, General Wards and other high-risk areas.
- Monitor cleaning and disinfection practices.
- Monitor adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Ensure appropriate sterilization and disinfection practices are followed.
- Coordinate with OT/CSSD staff regarding infection-control requirements.
- Monitor environmental hygiene and identify areas requiring corrective action.

E. Environmental & Housekeeping Surveillance
- Monitor hospital cleanliness and environmental hygiene.
- Audit housekeeping practices related to cleaning and disinfection.
- Ensure appropriate cleaning schedules and checklists are followed.
- Monitor cleaning of high-touch surfaces and patient-care areas.
- Coordinate with housekeeping supervisors to address deficiencies.
- Monitor appropriate use and dilution of disinfectants as per approved hospital protocols.

F. Biomedical Waste Management
- Monitor compliance with applicable biomedical waste-management procedures.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of biomedical waste at the point of generation.
- Conduct periodic audits of waste segregation practices.
- Educate healthcare workers regarding proper biomedical waste handling.
- Report repeated non-compliance to the concerned supervisor/management.
- Coordinate with the designated biomedical waste-management team/vendor.

G. Staff Training & Awareness Conduct or coordinate regular training on:
- Hand hygiene
- Standard precautions
- PPE use
- Biomedical waste segregation
- Safe injection practices
- Needle-stick injury prevention
- Aseptic techniques
- Environmental cleaning
- Sterilization and disinfection
- Prevention of healthcare-associated infections

Maintain attendance and training records. H. Needle-Stick & Occupational Exposure
- Assist in implementation of the hospital protocol for needle-stick injuries and occupational exposure.
- Ensure incidents are reported promptly.
- Coordinate with the appropriate medical authority for assessment and management.
- Maintain confidential records of occupational exposure incidents.
- Conduct awareness sessions on prevention of needle-stick injuries.

I. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain infection-control audit records.
- Prepare regular infection-control reports.
- Maintain hand-hygiene audit data and HAI surveillance records.
- Document training activities.
- Maintain records of infection-control incidents and corrective actions.




- Assist in preparing reports for the Infection Control Committee and hospital management.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.

J. Infection Control Committee Support
- Assist the Infection Control Committee in implementing its recommendations.
- Participate in infection-control meetings as assigned.
- Prepare relevant data and audit findings for review.
- Follow up on action points arising from infection-control meetings.
- Support development and periodic review of infection-control SOPs.

Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with qualification, experience and suitability.

The candidate should be comfortable conducting audits, interacting with doctors and nursing staff, training hospital employees, identifying infection-control gaps and following up on corrective actions.

Strong communication, documentation, observation and coordination skills are essential for this position.
