About CalybAt Calyb, we’re building General System Intelligence (GSI): a current class of AI systems that can understand enterprise knowledge, reason through complex workflows, and reliably execute work across business systems.

We’re building at the intersection of AI, software systems, enterprise knowledge and autonomous execution.

We’re looking for someone who wants to build the system, shape the product, and work with the team around it, We are not looking for someone to own a small, predefined slice of the system.

About the RoleThis is a Founding Engineer role encompasses engineering/product and team leadership and execution.

Good engineering is the entry ticket.

The real requirement is ownership.

You will work closely with the founders to take problems from ambiguity to production, understanding the problem, deciding what should be built, building it, and eventually getting the team to execute it.

Over time, you should become someone who can be handed an entire engineering or product problem and trusted to take it forward without needing step-by-step direction.

This role is particularly suited to an early-career engineer who has already demonstrated unusually high ownership and wants to grow rapidly into a technical and organizational leader.

What Success Looks LikeSuccess in this role is not measured by the number of tickets shipped.

- A vague problem can be handed to you and comes back as a clear product and engineering plan.

Responsibilities

Build
- Design and build core components of Calyb’s GSI platform across AI, agents, knowledge systems, orchestration and application infrastructure.
- Take ambiguous technical problems from first principles and turn them into reliable production systems.
- Make architectural decisions balancing performance, reliability, scalability and cost.
- Work across the stack when required rather than being constrained by a particular technology or layer.




- Debug difficult system-level problems and find simple solutions to complex technical challenges.

Think Product
- Work with founders and customers to understand the actual problem behind a requirement.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clear product and engineering requirements.
- Challenge requirements when the proposed solution does not address the underlying problem.
- Decide what should be built, what should not be built, and what can be simplified.
- Rapidly test ideas in the real world and iterate based on what is learned.

Own Execution
- Take complete ownership of projects from problem definition through deployment and iteration.
- Break large and ambiguous problems into executable work for the team.
- Identify blockers, dependencies and risks before they impact delivery.
- Establish the technical direction required to keep projects moving.
- Take responsibility for outcomes rather than limiting ownership to assigned tasks.

Build with the Team
- Work closely with engineers to solve difficult technical problems.
- Review designs and code and raise the engineering quality bar.
- Help engineers reason through problems rather than simply giving them solutions.
- Improve engineering practices, development processes and technical standards.
- Eventually take ownership of planning, prioritization and execution across engineering/product areas.
- Help Calyb build a high-performance engineering culture as the team grows.

Qualifications

Must Have
- Strong fundamentals in computer science and software engineering.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and first-principles thinking.
- Experience building and shipping real software, not just prototypes.
- Ability to work effectively with ambiguous or incomplete requirements.
- Strong ownership — you naturally take responsibility for getting things done.
- Ability to understand a system end-to-end and reason about technical trade-offs.
- Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, product stakeholders and customers.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly and use whatever tools are appropriate for the problem.
- Around 2+ years of professional engineering experience is preferred, but demonstrated ability matters more than the number.

Particularly ValuableExperience with one or more of:




- AI/ML systems and LLM-based applications.
- AI agents and agentic workflows.
- Distributed systems and backend architecture.
- Cloud infrastructure and scalable application architecture.
- Databases and data-intensive systems.
- Low-level systems, networking or performance engineering.
- Python, C++, TypeScript, React, FastAPI or similar technologies.

You do not need experience with our exact stack. We care much more about engineering fundamentals, learning velocity and problem-solving ability than a checklist of technologies.

Compensation & LocationWe have a clear starting compensation structure for this role rather than negotiating individual CTC packages.

Bangalore is preferred. We can work out a hybrid arrangement for the right person.
