Forward Deployment Engineer (FDE) The Forward Deployment Engineer sits at the intersection of engineering, customer operations, product development, and commercial impact .

This is not a conventional software deployment role. The FDE is expected to understand the customer’s plant, people, processes, and operational problems deeply enough to ensure our software creates measurable value on-site.

What We Look For We want someone who combines:

Strong technical understanding

High analytical ability and problem-solving intelligence

Excellent observation skills

Commercial and sales awareness

Strong communication and relationship-building ability

Comfort working directly at industrial customer sites

Ability to understand both engineers and management

Core Responsibilities

- Deploy the Product at Customer Sites

Lead the technical deployment, integration, configuration, commissioning, and validation of our software at customer plants.

Understand the existing PLC, SCADA, DCS, sensors, databases, networks, and operational workflows required for successful deployment.

The objective is not simply to install the software—it is to make sure the product becomes operationally useful.

- Understand the Customer Deeply

Spend time on the plant floor, in the CCR, with maintenance teams, process engineers, instrumentation teams, IT teams, plant management, and senior leadership.

Observe how decisions are currently made, where operators struggle, what information is missing, and where our product can create measurable value.

An FDE should understand problems that the customer may not clearly articulate themselves.

3.

Build Relationships

Across the Customer Organization

Develop strong working relationships at every relevant level of the customer's organization—from operators and engineers to department heads, plant heads, and management.

Become the trusted technical point of contact between the customer and OSWAR teck.

4.

Continuously Communicate Customer

Problems to Product Engineering

Capture issues, friction points, feature requests, operational observations, and recurring customer problems.

Translate these into explicit technical inputs for the Product Engineering team.

Do not simply forward customer requests. Understand the underlying problem and communicate:

What is happening

Why it matters

How frequently it occurs

Who is affected

What operational or financial impact it creates

- Discover and Test New Use Cases

Work with customers to identify and test new applications of the product.

Experiment intelligently—but remain anchored to the core product strategy .

The role is not to turn the product into custom software for every customer. New use cases should strengthen the core platform and ideally be repeatable across multiple plants.

6.

Drive Product

Adoption

Make sure customers actually use the software.

Track which modules and features are being used, which are being ignored, and why.

Train users, remove adoption barriers, demonstrate workflows, and continuously help customers incorporate the product into their daily operations.

Success is not measured by installation.

Success is when the customer depends on the product.

- Overcommunicate ROI

Continuously demonstrate the value created by the software.

Where possible, quantify:

Downtime avoided

Maintenance cost reduced

Production increased

Energy saved

Process deviations detected

Failures predicted

Diagnosis time reduced

Operator productivity improved

Financial impact generated

Customers should never have to ask,

“What value are we getting from this software?”

The FDE should already be showing them.

- Documentation & Customer Enablement

Create and maintain clear customer-facing documentation including:

User guides

Deployment documentation

SOPs

Troubleshooting guides

Feature documentation

Training material

Best-practice workflows

“How to use this” guides The goal is to make customers increasingly capable of using the platform independently.

The FDE Mindset A strong FDE should think:

“I am responsible for making this product successful inside this plant.”

That means understanding the technology, understanding the plant, understanding the people, finding valuable problems, ensuring adoption, communicating feedback internally, and continuously proving business value.

What Success Looks Like A successful Forward Deployment Engineer creates a customer who:

Uses the platform every day

Trusts the data and recommendations

Sees measurable ROI

Introduces the product to additional departments

Helps discover repeatable use cases

Provides strong feedback to improve the product

Wants to expand the deployment to other lines or plants

Becomes a long-term advocate for OSWAR teck
