Role & responsibilities

- Review RFQs, scope, drawings, quantities, specifications, delivery and commercial terms; prepare and submit accurate client quotations.
- Read part, GA and fabrication drawings; understand dimensions, material grades, weld details, tolerances and revision changes.
- Segregate BOMs into raw steel, plates, sections, pipes, bought-outs, fasteners, consumables, machining, painting/coating and services.
- Prepare accurate MTOs, weights, cutting allowances, nesting assumptions, scrap and wastage calculations.
- Cost cutting, forming, fit-up, welding, grinding, drilling, machining, assembly, inspection, blasting and painting.
- Identify high-cost, capacity-constrained, long-lead and risky operations/items and flag them before purchase approval.
- Benchmark critical material/bought-out rates and support Purchase with technically justified cost estimates before commitments.
- Estimate man-hours, machine-hours, welding consumables/deposition and productivity using approved norms and historical data.
- Include overheads, testing, packing, freight, subcontracting, contingency and other applicable cost components.
- Prepare detailed cost sheets, compare target/estimated cost and calculate selling price/margin per management guidelines.
- Coordinate with Sales, Design, Projects and clients on assumptions, exclusions, revisions, delivery and technical/commercial clarifications.
- Update estimates for drawing/BOM/scope/rate changes with complete revision history and traceability.
- Maintain steel rates, vendor rates,



fabrication norms, labour rates, wastage, productivity and previous project costs.
- Compare estimated versus actual costs, analyze major variances and record lessons for future estimates.
- Coordinate with Design, Production, Purchase, Quality, Stores, Finance, Projects and Sales.
- Maintain enquiries, drawings, BOMs, MTOs, calculations, quotations, approvals and costing records confidentially.

Preferred candidate profile

1. Heavy steel/structural fabrication estimating and costing
2. Robust reading of part, GA and fabrication drawings
3. BOM segregation and drawing-based MTO
4. Steel weight, cutting allowance, nesting, scrap and wastage calculation
5. Knowledge of welding, fit-up, machining, drilling, bending, blasting and painting
6. Labour-hour, machine-hour and productivity costing
7. Vendor quotation comparison and purchase-cost validation
8. Bottleneck/high-cost item identification before procurement approval
9. Client quotation preparation, assumptions and exclusions
10. Advanced MS Excel; ERP/MRP exposure preferred
11. Estimate-to-actual variance analysis and cost database management
12. Accuracy, commercial awareness, analytical thinking, communication and deadline discipline
