Location: Fabrication shed / Shipyard site

Employment Type: Full-time

Purpose of the Role To safely operate Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) cranes for lifting, moving and positioning steel plates, fabricated sections and hull blocks, ensuring safe handling, smooth material flow and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

- Operate EOT cranes (pendant, cabin or remote controlled) to lift and shift materials as instructed
- Follow signals from the rigger or signalman for accurate positioning and placement of loads
- Handle loads strictly within the rated secure working load (SWL) of the crane
- Coordinate with fabrication, welding, fit-up and dispatch teams for timely material movement
- Assist in loading and unloading of trailers and trucks within the shed

Safety and Compliance

- Follow all site safety rules, SOPs and permit-to-work requirements
- Wear required PPE at all times: helmet, safety shoes, gloves and other gear as required
- Ensure the load path and danger zone are clear before every lift
- Never lift unbalanced, unsecured or overloaded materials
- Stop work immediately and report any unsafe act or condition
- Comply with the Factories Act and applicable statutory crane safety norms

Inspection and Maintenance

- Carry out daily pre-use checks: hoist, brakes, limit switches, hook and latch, wire rope, chains and slings, pendant or remote, and travel and traverse motion
- Report defects, abnormal noise or malfunctions to the maintenance team without delay




- Keep the crane log book and inspection records up to date
- Keep the crane cabin, gantry access and surrounding area clean

Reporting

- Maintain daily lift records and shift handover notes
- Report breakdowns, delays, near-misses and incidents to the supervisor

Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Minimum 10th pass; ITI (Electrical/Mechanical) preferred
- Experience: 2-4 years operating EOT cranes, preferably in a shipyard, steel fabrication, heavy engineering or warehouse setup
- Certification: Valid crane operator competency certificate as required by law (preferred)
- Experience handling hull blocks and heavy structural sections is an added advantage

Skills and Competencies
- Sound knowledge of crane controls, load charts and rigging basics
- Good understanding of hand signals and radio communication
- Strong depth perception, coordination and smooth load control
- Alertness and calm under noisy, high-pressure working conditions
- Basic mechanical and electrical awareness to spot early faults
- Discipline, punctuality and a strong safety mindset

- Shift work, including night shifts and overtime as required
- Good eyesight and hearing, and medical fitness for working at height

Pay: ₹10,604.26 - ₹17,599.00 per month
