Position Overview

This role leads end-to-end engineering delivery for the company's digital products, owning backend and frontend engineering across a team of 7–8 engineers. The manager will be accountable for architectural decisions, engineering velocity, and the reliability of distributed systems that serve millions of listeners on the company's digital streaming platform and related products. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical depth and the ability to grow and align a cross-functional engineering team.

Role & Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional team of 7–8 backend and frontend engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development
- Own architectural decisions for distributed backend systems and shared platform services supporting multiple digital products
- Drive engineering best practices — code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident response, and service reliability
- Partner with product, design, and content teams to translate business requirements into engineering plans with clear timelines and milestones
- Define and track engineering KPIs (uptime, latency, deployment frequency, error rates) and hold the team accountable to them




- Identify and resolve technical debt, scalability bottlenecks, and infrastructure gaps proactively
- Collaborate with senior leadership on platform strategy, resource planning, and build-vs-buy decisions

Must Have Criteria

- 7–8 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management role leading backend and/or frontend teams
- Prior experience at high-scale B2C consumer product companies with large concurrent user bases
- Hands-on experience designing and scaling distributed backend systems with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs at consumer scale
- Proficiency in at least one modern backend language — Go, Java, Node.js, or Python — used in production at scale
- Production experience with at least one major cloud provider: GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Hands-on experience deploying backend services using Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong command of data modeling, caching strategies, service decomposition, and microservices architecture in a consumer-facing product workplace
- Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional engineering teams of 5+ engineers, including hiring and performance management

Nice to Have

- Experience architecting shared backend platforms supporting multiple products or business verticals
- Prior experience in media, streaming, audio/video platforms, or content-heavy consumer applications
- Familiarity with CDN architecture, adaptive streaming protocols, or real-time content delivery at scale
- Exposure to ad-tech, programmatic advertising, or listener analytics platforms
