: Electronics Hardware Design Engineer
Experience: 4+ years
Department: Hardware / R&D;
Location: Gurugram
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are looking for an Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to design and develop the analog and power hardware for underwater acoustic communication systems. You will work on the full signal chain: hydrophone receive electronics, transmit power amplifiers driving acoustic transducers, and the supporting mixed-signal and power circuits. You will own hardware from schematic through PCB layout, bring-up, debugging, and validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design analog and mixed-signal circuits for underwater communication modems and acoustic transceivers operating in the low-frequency (kHz to a few hundred kHz) range.
- Design low-noise preamplifiers and receive front ends for hydrophones and piezoelectric sensors, including filtering, gain staging, and ADC interfacing.
- Design transmit power amplifiers (linear and Class D/switching) to drive piezoelectric and other acoustic transducers efficiently.
- Design impedance matching and tuning networks between the amplifier and the transducer, including transformers and magnetics (ferrite core selection, winding design).
- Create schematics and PCB layouts in KiCad and Altium Designer, with attention to low-noise layout, grounding, shielding, and power integrity.
- Design power supply circuits (isolated and non-isolated DC-DC, LDOs, battery-powered supplies) with low noise and high efficiency.
- Bring up new boards and debug at board and component level.
- Characterize and validate designs using CRO, spectrum analyzer, multimeter, and LCR meter.
- Perform root cause analysis of hardware failures and implement design fixes.
- Support integration into sealed, pressure-rated housings, working with mechanical teams on connectors, potting, and thermal management.
- Prepare design documentation, test procedures,
and test reports.
- Collaborate with DSP/firmware and systems teams to meet link performance requirements.
- Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech (or M.Tech) in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in electronics hardware design.
- Proficiency in KiCad and Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Solid command of analog circuit design: op-amps, active filters, low-noise amplifier design, noise analysis, biasing, and feedback.
- Experience with power amplifier design at low frequency (audio and ultrasonic range), including thermal design and protection.
- Hands-on experience with CRO, spectrum analyzer, multimeter, and LCR meter.
- Strong PCB debugging skills on assembled cards.
- Solid electronics fundamentals: passive and active components, semiconductor devices, and power electronics basics.
Preferred Skills (Good to Have)
- Experience with piezoelectric transducers, hydrophones, or sonar/ultrasonic systems.
- Understanding of transducer electrical models (BVD equivalent circuit) and impedance characterization, including use of an impedance analyzer.
- Knowledge of Class D amplifier topologies and output filter design.
- Experience with ADC/DAC selection and anti-aliasing/reconstruction filter design.
- Familiarity with circuit simulation tools (LTspice, Cadence/PSpice, or similar).
- Knowledge of magnetics design for transformers and inductors.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC practices and low-noise design for battery-powered systems.
- Exposure to underwater or marine environment requirements (waterproofing, corrosion, pressure).
- Experience with SMD soldering and rework.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Clear technical documentation and communication.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Ownership mindset and attention to detail.
