The opportunity

SRMB Steel is looking for a Senior Manager Electrical to lead electrical projects, switchyard systems, automation and reliability across steel manufacturing operations. The role will provide technical oversight from engineering and construction through testing, commissioning and handover, while supporting safe and reliable operation of the company’s steelmaking and rolling assets. Only candidates with hands-on exposure to TMT, Rolling Mill and SMS (Steel Melting Shop) operations will be considered.

Key responsibilities

Electrical projects and engineering

Plan and deliver electrical projects from concept and engineering through construction, commissioning and handover. Review scope, single-line diagrams, specifications, equipment selections, BOQs, estimates and execution schedules. Coordinate with civil, mechanical, production, safety, procurement and project teams to manage interfaces, contractors, quality, cost and milestones.

132 kV and 33 kV switchyard systems

Oversee operation, maintenance, expansion and commissioning of 132 kV and 33 kV switchyards and associated high-tension systems. Review transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, metering, cabling and earthing. Plan outages, inspections, testing and restoration to maintain secure, reliable power supply to plant operations.

PLC DCS and SCADA systems

Lead electrical automation and control-system reliability across PLC, DCS and SCADA platforms. Review control logic, drive interfaces, alarms, interlocks and operating sequences. Coordinate troubleshooting, modifications,



backups and system upgrades with internal teams, OEMs and specialist contractors.

Key responsibilities continued

HT switchgear MCC and VFD systems

Direct inspection, preventive maintenance, testing and fault diagnosis for HT switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, motors, transformers and critical electrical equipment. Maintain maintenance schedules, breakdown records and critical spares. Lead root-cause reviews and implement actions that improve equipment availability and reduce repeat failures.

Steel plant process equipment

Provide electrical engineering support to induction furnaces, TMT mills, strip mills and power plant operations. Work with production and maintenance teams to resolve electrical and automation issues affecting furnace operation, rolling line performance, product flow and power availability. Support equipment upgrades and commissioning in operating plants.

Construction and commissioning

Monitor site execution for electrical installations, cable routing, panels, switchgear and control systems. Ensure inspection and test plans are followed, drawings and records are updated, punch-list items are closed, and systems are handed over with operating and maintenance documentation.

Reliability and maintenance planning

Develop preventive and condition-based maintenance plans for electrical and automation assets. Analyze breakdowns, downtime and recurring defects. Coordinate planned shutdown work with production and maintenance leaders, and track completion, equipment readiness and return to service.

Electrical safety and technical standards

Enforce safe systems of work for high-voltage operations, including isolation, permits, switching procedures and contractor controls. Maintain equipment inspection and testing records. Ensure designs, installations and maintenance practices meet applicable electrical codes, company standards and statutory requirements.





Budgets energy and team leadership

Prepare project and maintenance budgets, assess technical proposals and monitor expenditure. Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and power quality. Lead engineers, supervisors and contractors, build technical capability, and provide clear progress, risk and performance updates to senior management.

Candidate profile

- Minimum 12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience. Direct, hands-on exposure to TMT, Rolling Mill and SMS (Steel Melting Shop) operations is mandatory; candidates without experience in all three areas will not be considered.
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering. A degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred for this senior role.
- Demonstrated project experience covering electrical engineering, construction, testing, commissioning and handover in a steel plant.
- Working knowledge of 132 kV and 33 kV switchyards, HT switchgear, protection systems, MCCs, VFDs and plant power distribution.
- Hands-on exposure to PLC, DCS and SCADA systems, including troubleshooting and coordination of plant automation changes.
- Electrical experience supporting induction furnaces, TMT mills, strip mills and power plant operations in the steel industry.
- Ability to lead contractors and technical teams, manage shutdown and project interfaces, diagnose recurring faults and communicate risks clearly.
- Ability to work from the Kolkata head office and travel to manufacturing sites.
