Job Summary

The CTVS Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures. The role involves pre-operative assessment, post-operative monitoring, critical care management, patient education, and coordination with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

- Provide comprehensive nursing care to CTVS patients before and after surgery.

- Monitor vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, cardiac rhythm, and respiratory status.

- Identify and promptly report any changes in patient condition.

- Manage chest drains, temporary pacemakers, catheter lines, and invasive monitoring devices.

- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments as prescribed.

Pre-Operative Care

- Assess patient readiness for surgery.

- Verify patient documentation, consent forms, and investigation reports.

- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and recovery expectations.

Post-Operative Care

- Monitor patients recovering from CABG, valve replacement, vascular surgeries, and thoracic procedures.

- Observe for complications such as bleeding, arrhythmias, infection, respiratory distress, and hemodynamic instability.

- Ensure effective pain management and wound care.

Clinical Documentation

- Maintain accurate nursing records and patient charts.

- Document assessments, interventions, medications,



and patient progress.

Infection Control & Safety

- Adhere to hospital infection control policies and protocols.

- Maintain aseptic techniques during all nursing procedures.

- Ensure patient safety and compliance with quality standards.

Emergency Management

- Respond effectively during cardiac emergencies and code situations.

- Assist in resuscitation procedures and advanced cardiac life support interventions.

Coordination & Communication

- Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, anesthetists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.

- Educate patients and family members regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.

Qualifications

- B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing.

- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.

- Certification in BLS is mandatory.

- ACLS certification preferred.

Experience

- 1-5 years of experience in CTVS Ward, CTICU, Cardiac ICU, or Cardiothoracic Surgery unit.

- Freshers with solid clinical exposure in cardiac care may also be considered for trainee roles.

Skills Required

- Knowledge of cardiac and vascular surgical procedures.

- Competency in post-operative cardiac patient management.

- Ability to handle emergency and critical care situations.

- Strong clinical assessment and monitoring skills.

- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
