Role Description The Credit Manager is a full-time, in office role based in Bettiah. This role is responsible for overseeing credit operations, including evaluating loan proposals, assessing borrower eligibility, and ensuring adherence to internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.
The Credit
Manager will analyze financial data and credit histories, monitor portfolio quality, and identify early warning signals to minimize risk. Daily tasks include reviewing field-level credit recommendations, coordinating with branch teams, approving or escalating credit decisions, and preparing reports on credit performance. The role also involves mentoring team members on credit practices, supporting audits and compliance reviews,
and contributing to continuous improvement of credit processes to strengthen the portfolio and support Svatantra’s mission.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Credit Management and Credit Risk Management, including experience in evaluating loan proposals and monitoring portfolio quality.
- Strong Analytical Skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, assess borrower capacity, and make data-driven credit decisions.
- Solid understanding of Finance and Credit concepts, particularly within microfinance or retail lending environments.
- Proficiency in using MS Excel and other basic analytical tools for credit analysis and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field; a postgraduate degree or relevant certification is an advantage.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain credit decisions clearly to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work on-site with field and branch teams, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and meet timelines in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in microfinance, NBFCs, banking, or rural credit operations is highly desirable.
- Strong ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to responsible lending and customer protection.
