What You’ll Be Doing (Position Summary):

As a Data Engineering Consultant, you will play a key role in designing, building, and modernizing data engineering solutions at CIBC.



This role sits within the data engineering function and is focused on ETL development, pipeline engineering, data migration, and cloud based data platform enablement.

You will work closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand data requirements, translate them into scalable engineering solutions, and support the migration of legacy data assets into modern cloud environments such as Azure Databricks.

The primary focus of this role is on data engineering, ETL processes, pipeline development, and data warehousing, including building robust and scalable data pipelines using SQL, Python, and PySpark.

How You’ll Succeed:

- Deliver scalable and reliable data engineering solutions to support analytics, reporting, and downstream data consumption.
- Build, enhance, and maintain batch and/or distributed data pipelines using SQL, Python, and PySpark.
- Design and implement ETL workflows that ensure efficient ingestion, transformation, and movement of data across systems.
- Develop reusable and optimized pipeline components aligned with engineering best practices.
- Support migration of data from legacy platforms to Azure Databricks and modern cloud based environments.
- Analyze legacy data flows, transformation logic, and source-to-target mappings to enable smooth modernization.
- Rebuild and optimize legacy ETL processes using modern engineering frameworks and tools.
- Ensure data integrity, completeness, and consistency during migration activities.
- Apply strong understanding of data warehousing concepts to support curated, structured, and analytics-ready data layers.
- Perform data analysis, profiling, reconciliation, and validation to ensure quality and accuracy of delivered datasets.
- Follow established SDLC processes and contribute to development, testing, deployment, and support activities.
- Ensure solutions align with data governance, control, and quality standards.




- Document technical design, transformation logic, mappings, and operational processes as needed.
- Work with business, analytics, and technology teams to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts, delivery status, and issues clearly with stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering tasks and streamline data workflows.
- Recommend improvements in ETL design, code efficiency, data quality, and operational support.
- Stay current with modern data engineering practices, cloud data platforms, and Databricks capabilities.

Who You Are:

- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or related data-focused technology roles
- Strong hands-on proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark
- Strong experience in building and maintaining data pipelines
- Solid understanding of ETL and data engineering concepts
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts
- Proven experience in migrating data from legacy platforms to Databricks
- Experience working with Azure Databricks
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis skills
- Good understanding of SDLC processes
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work closely with stakeholders and translate requirements into engineering solutions
