To supervise and control day-to-day paint shop operations for sheet metal components, ensuring production targets, coating quality, safety, manpower utilization, and delivery schedules are achieved efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise complete paint shop operations for sheet metal components.
- Manage processes such as surface preparation, degreasing, phosphating, powder coating, liquid painting, curing, drying, and final inspection.
- Plan and allocate manpower according to production requirements and shift schedules.
- Monitor daily production plans and ensure timely completion of targets.
- Ensure proper paint/coating thickness, adhesion, colour, gloss, finish, and appearance as per customer specifications.
- Monitor and control paint booth, spray equipment, curing oven, air pressure, temperature, and process parameters.
- Ensure proper preparation and handling of components before painting.
- Monitor paint and chemical consumption and minimize process wastage.
- Coordinate with Quality, PPC, Maintenance, Stores, and Production teams for smooth operations.
- Identify and resolve defects such as peeling, orange peel, pinholes, sagging, runs, blisters, uneven coating, colour variation, and poor adhesion.
- Ensure first-piece and in-process inspections are carried out as per quality standards.
- Monitor rejection, rework, productivity, downtime, and process efficiency.
- Maintain required production, quality, paint consumption, and shift reports.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and identification of paints, chemicals, and consumables.




- Implement 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with PPE, EHS, fire safety, chemical handling, and environmental requirements.
- Train and guide operators on painting processes, quality requirements, and safe working practices.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and breakdown resolution of paint shop equipment.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and secure working conditions within the paint shop.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of powder coating and liquid painting processes.
- Knowledge of sheet metal surface preparation and pre-treatment processes.
- Good understanding of paint defects and troubleshooting methods.
- Knowledge of coating thickness measurement and basic paint quality inspection.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Knowledge of paint booth, spray guns, curing ovens, compressors, and related equipment.
- Strong manpower and shop-floor management skills.
- Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and OEE.
- Good problem-solving and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Basic knowledge of SAP and production reporting is an advantage.

Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

- 8–12 years in Paint Shop / Surface Treatment operations, preferably in sheet metal fabrication or automotive/manufacturing industries.
