Apparel Merchandiser: Sourcing, Garment Production & Product Development

Required Qualification: Graduate in Garment Merchandising, Garment Manufacturing Technology, or related qualification from a reputed Institute.

Nordo is hiring a Merchandiser with strong Knitwear and Woven expertise, established manufacturing connections, and the ability to deliver garments to export standards.

Nordo is a quality-focused Design House & Garment Manufacturer based in India, catering to clothing brands for retail goods, institutions and corporates for bespoke, premium garment solutions, and the supply of high-end fabrics to clothing factories. With product offerings spread across a number of categories catering to both, domestic and international clients, Nordo has its manufacturing operations in a number of countries.

You will work directly with the founders and handle inquiries from the initial stages, be involved in the conversion of inquiries to orders, build and manage supplier networks, sourcing and development, ensure sample development and approval to quality standards, and see orders through from inquiry stages, to production, dispatch, and repeat orders.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE

- Candidates with relevant industry experience of 5+ years are welcome to apply.
- Proven experience in merchandising for Knitted & Woven garments manufacturing with at least 5+ years’ work experience.
- Strong knowledge of the garment manufacturing process, materials and quality standards, production flow, and supply chain planning for timely order execution.
- Demonstratable communication and negotiation skills with manufacturers and buyers. Should have knowledge of the selections and approvals process and be able to maintain a constant feedback loop with the buyer and manufacturer.
- Ensuring all communication and data related to inquiries and orders is structured and organised for immediate reference.
- Experience working across cross-functional teams and understanding of processes outside the scope of your immediate role.
- Proficiency with Software Tools and Applications for Merchandise and Production Planning, Data Analysis and Presentation, and Project Management. Including Microsoft Office Suite, basic design tools, and related online tools.
- Understanding of constantly-evolving market trends and the ability to identify and develop strategies to capitalise on these.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of common compliance and regulatory standards in the apparel industry, and being able to maintain company standards.
- Willingness to travel to factories and suppliers pan India.
- Have a strong network of fabric and accessory suppliers, and factories for the manufacture of high-quality Knit and Woven garments in India.

- A proven ability to understand and process inquiries, identify styles, identify and shortlist fabric and accessory options in line with target costs, and put together all the physical references and data required for conversion of the inquiry to an order.

dependable network of knitwear & woven garment manufacturers you can engage for production. This is essential. Connections around Mumbai are valuable; wider networks are equally welcome.
- Strong garment merchandising and knitwear manufacturing knowledge, with practical experience meeting Export Quality requirements. Woven fabric knowledge and hands-on experience is an added advantage.
- Sound fabric knowledge across Knitted and Woven fabrics: construction, composition, GSM, shrinkage, stability, finishes, and be able to match fabrics to their ideal uses.
- Computer proficiency. Particularly in Email, Microsoft Word, Excel or Google Sheets, PowerPoint or Canva, PDF documents, and basic design tools. Familiarity with Flat Sketches, making Colourways, Techpacks, Specification Sheets, and related technical know-how is expected.
- A resourceful, organised approach: you take initiative in sourcing clients, negotiate to close, manage expectations, and execute orders from inquiries through to delivery.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONTEXT

Product Development:

- Develop new garment styles with designers based on buyer briefs, market trends, in line with company capabilities.
- Understand, analyse tech packs, sketches, measurement charts and garment construction details. Capability to develop new tech packs with designers and technicians for newly developed styles.
- Maintain a continuous inflow of samples of new fabrics, accessories, and industry developments from new and existing suppliers.
- Initiate and coordinate development of new styles, fabrics qualities, washes, prints, embroidery, trims and accessories with factories and suppliers.
- Work with design/ technical teams to convert concepts into commercially viable garments.
- Prepare and follow up on development, proto, fit, size set, photo, PP samples, and adhere to timelines.

Sourcing and Production:

- Source and onboard high-quality manufacturing partners, using your existing relationships and developing new ones across the country for the categories we cater to and additional categories for expansion of our product portfolio.
- Maintain a database of factories matched to different product requirements, order quantities and quality standards, and ready for placement of orders as they come.
- Negotiate costs, minimum order quantities and lead times. Identify and keep prepared the right fabric options for specific styles, match trims, accessories, and ancillaries, and work on developing ready tech-packs for bulk production.
- Manage sampling, ensure approvals for deliverables, plan and follow-up on production as per QA standards, to deliver orders correctly and on time.
- Prepare, maintain, and organise documentation with factories and suppliers, ensuring a full written chain of proof for all steps involved in the pre-production, production, and post-production stages.
- Maintain clear supplier communication, accurate cost sheets and production trackers. Anticipate delays,



resolve problems and follow through with each stage of the order process.

Buyer and Client coordination:

- Communicate with buyers / design team regarding product development requirements. Understand the intricacies of the requirements and maintain a clear line of communication.
- Clarify technical, construction, fabric and finishing requirements.
- Present new developments and samples to clients for approval.
- Maintain effective communication and follow up on comments, approvals and revisions.

Fabric and Sample Development:

- Coordinate with fabric development, knitting, dyeing and sourcing for required fabrics and trims.
- Should have strong sourcing abilities locally and nationally for finished fabric and trims across various MOQs.
- Should have sourcing knowledge for production of knitted and woven fabric in India.
- Should have a strong network of factories and production units for knit & woven garments in India.
- Should be able to identify and onboard suppliers to fulfil sampling needs through inquiry stages and order approval stages.
