Principal Scientist – AI/ML & Machine Vision Experience: 6–7 Years

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established player in India's railway infrastructure ecosystem, is expanding its technology capabilities across AI/ML, Computer Vision, IoT and Embedded Systems.

We are looking for a Principal Scientist – AI/ML & Machine Vision to build and lead the organisation's in-house AI/ML capability, with a focus on image and video-based railway safety, fault detection and predictive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop AI/ML and computer-vision models for high-speed train and track camera footage.
- Develop algorithms for detecting wheel defects, track deformation and structural damage.
- Build predictive-maintenance systems using real-time image and video feeds.
- Validate AI/ML outputs with railway engineering teams against real-world and RDSO-aligned safety requirements.
- Own the technical roadmap for image-based railway safety systems.
- Build and strengthen the company's in-house AI/ML and Computer Vision capability.
- Mentor and guide teams working across AI/ML, Computer Vision, Embedded Systems and IoT.
- Evaluate global rail-tech and AI/ML developments and adapt relevant solutions for Indian railway conditions.

Ideal Candidate Profile

- 6–7 years of relevant experience in AI/ML, Computer Vision or Machine Vision.




- Strong hands-on expertise in developing production-grade computer-vision models.
- Experience in fault detection, defect detection, anomaly detection or predictive maintenance is highly preferred.
- Exposure to railways, transportation, heavy engineering, manufacturing or other safety-critical industries would be advantageous.
- Experience working with image/video-based AI systems in real-world production environments.
- Strong ability to take solutions from research and prototyping through deployment.
- Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects and mentoring AI/ML teams.
- Candidates with exposure to rail-technology organisations or GE Transportation-type environments would be preferred.
- Should be comfortable taking ownership of building an in-house AI/ML capability rather than working purely in an academic/research environment.
