Job Description: Quality Control (QC) Head

About ARAM

ARAM is a knits apparel brand built on manufacturing discipline and product quality — not custom-order chaos. We run a 25-machine factory producing a tightly defined, catalogue-based product range (not sprawling client-specific variations), which means quality standards here are meant to be consistent and repeatable, not constantly renegotiated.

Role Summary

The QC Head owns product quality end-to-end — from the moment fabric arrives at the factory to the moment a finished garment is packed for dispatch. This is not a checklist-following role. You will set and enforce the AQL standard, build and manage a quality team under you, and hold real authority to reject fabric lots or hold production batches within pre-agreed tolerance bands — without needing sign-off on every call.

Key Responsibilities

Fabric Inward Quality (owned directly, not delegated to Procurement)

- GSM verification, shrinkage testing, colorfastness spot-checks, and 4-point fabric inspection on every incoming roll/lot before it reaches cutting
- Enforce pre-agreed tolerance bands (to be defined jointly with the Founder and Factory Head) — approve or reject lots within that band independently
- Escalate only genuine edge cases that fall outside the agreed tolerance

In-Process (Inline) Quality





- Floor presence during cutting and sewing to catch defects before a garment is fully built
- Maintain and enforce a consistent inline QC checklist per style (simplified by ARAM's locked, catalogue-based specs)

Final / Pre-Dispatch Quality

- AQL-based sampling and inspection before packing and dispatch
- Own the final go/no-go call on every batch

Team Building & Management

- Recruit, train, and manage a QC team as volume grows, starting with a dedicated Fabric Inward QC hire
- Set the priority rule for coverage conflicts (fabric inward inspection takes precedence over inline floor presence when both compete for attention on the same day)

Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination

- Flag recurring fabric non-conformance patterns to the Material Expert / Factory Head for vendor-level resolution
- Participate in resolving fabric-spec disagreements with the Material Expert, with the Factory Head as first-line arbiter and the Founder as final escalation only for cases outside the agreed tolerance band

Reporting

- Maintain a simple weekly quality dashboard (rejection rates, fabric lot pass/fail rate, defect categories) for Founder visibility — exception-based reporting, not daily approvals

Decision Authority (explicit)





- Can reject independently: any fabric lot or production batch falling within the pre-agreed tolerance band definition
- Must escalate: only genuine edge cases outside that band, or unresolved disagreements with the Material Expert that the Factory Head cannot settle

Experience & Qualifications

- 5+ years in garment/knits QC, ideally with exposure to both fabric-stage and garment-stage inspection
- Prior experience owning a consistent, repeatable AQL standard for a defined product range is preferred over experience only in high-variation, custom-order environments
- Working knowledge of GSM testing, shrinkage testing, colorfastness rating, and 4-point fabric inspection systems
- Demonstrated willingness to make and own reject/hold decisions under production time pressure — not just flag and escalate
- Prior team-building or team-lead experience, or explicit readiness to grow into one

What We're Screening For

Beyond technical knowledge, this role needs someone who will actually use the reject authority given to them. In interviews, expect scenario questions such as: "A fabric lot arrives 2% outside GSM tolerance and production is already behind schedule — what do you do?" We're looking for someone who owns that call, not someone who routes it upward by default.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
